Edison Motors new home in Donald, BC, a once booming 1890s railway town.

Imagine stepping off the train into the crisp, mountain air of Donald in the winter of 1889. The snow is piled high along the main street, but the town is absolutely buzzing.

​As the mountain headquarters for the Canadian Pacific Railway, Donald wasn't just a whistle-stop—it was a booming, vital hub. The air would be filled with the scent of woodsmoke, the clatter of horse-drawn sleighs, and the distant hiss of locomotives.

​If you walked down this snow-covered street in 1889, you had your choice of 8 different hotels to warm up in. The town was self-contained and thriving, boasting two churches, a public school, a library, and even a billiards hall for an evening's entertainment. Donald was also a place that took care of its own, serving the region with two hospitals to support the hardworking railway crews and residents.

​It’s hard to believe looking at this quiet, frozen moment in time just how much energy, ambition, and community filled this mountain valley over 130 years ago!
