The serpentine belt helps drive important accessories such as the alternator and, on many vehicles, the water pump and power-steering pump.

Squealing, visible cracks or a shiny glazed surface can be warning signs—but the belt isn’t always the only cause. A worn tensioner, pulley bearing or fluid contamination can create similar symptoms, so the entire belt drive should be inspected.

Catching wear early can help prevent a sudden belt failure and the problems that follow.

Brake fluid transfers force from the pedal to the braking system. Over time, it can absorb moisture, which may lower its boiling point and contribute to corrosion inside brake components.

Colour alone doesn’t tell the whole story. Fluid condition, service history and proper testing help determine whether attention is needed.

A steady humming, growling or rumbling noise that changes with vehicle speed can sometimes point to a worn wheel bearing—but tires, brakes and other rotating parts can create similar sounds.

A wheel-bearing noise may also change when the vehicle’s weight shifts during a gentle turn. That clue helps, but it doesn’t replace inspecting and testing the vehicle.

If the noise is getting louder, or you notice looseness, vibration or unusual handling, have it checked promptly.

A scan tells us what the vehicle’s computer noticed. It doesn’t always tell us which part failed.

The same code can sometimes be caused by wiring, a vacuum leak, a mechanical problem or another issue elsewhere in the system. That’s why proper diagnosis means testing the circuit or system before replacing anything.

Scan the code. Test the system. Confirm the cause. Then repair it.
