Ok.....for all of you out there who are buying used vehicles here are some things you should think about....
1 - A safety is NOT a guarentee of mechanical soundness ok???
All a safety means is that the vehicle meets the MINIMUM standard requirements to be considered safe for the road. In many cases these are vehicles that have had a patch here and/or a temporary fix done JUST to scrape by a safety so they can charge an extra $2000-$5000 cause the tag line "Safetied" gives people the impression that this vehicle is good to go.
2 - You are FAR better off to buy an unsafetied vehicle that just needs a few things to do to pass safety.
For starters you can buy unsafetied vehicles CHEAP and as long as the person checkin vehicles out for you knows what the f**k they are talking about, then it's just a matter of combing through the ads till you find that Diamond in the rough.
3 - By buying unsafetied and having the repairs done yourself, not only does it allow you to get the vehicle you WANT instead of "whatever you can get safetied for __________, but it also allows you to do the things no one ever does that are essential to the longevity of your vehicle (Fluids, suspension, etc).
4 - You can actually end up with some warranty!!
Don't forget that auto parts come with a variety of warranties, but many are not transferrable, so if the seller does the work then the invoice is under their name and is no use to you.
Whereas if you are the one buying the parts then the warranty is yours regardless of who does the work.
There are so many reasons to buy unsafetied and build it yourself. I know it sounds scary, but if you do it right then you end up with a much better quality used vehicle that actually reflects what you want, and has a chance at lasting more than 6 months to 1 year.
