In our last post, we compared how engine manufacturers are adapting their emissions systems. This time, we’re looking at the service intervals behind them.

OEM-published intervals depend on the engine generation and operating conditions. Some include hour or calendar limits. Others describe a mileage range tied to fuel consumption.

EPA 2027 will look different depending on what’s under the hood.

Engine manufacturers are taking different approaches to reducing NOx emissions, with changes that include electric heating, added pre-SCR, and dual-stage aftertreatment.

We’ve put four manufacturers’ approaches side by side to help fleet and maintenance teams understand what’s coming.

Nearly 600 EGR coolers cleaned and counting.

Since January 2025, we’ve been supporting VIA’s NOVA bus fleet with EGR cooler cleaning for their Cummins ISL G and L9N engines.

Here’s what Hugo Villarreal from Fleet Maintenance had to say:

DPF cleaning isn't enough. At least, not the way they're doing it.

When most shops say they offer DPF cleaning, they’re usually referring to the industry standard blast and bake method.

In many cases, traditional blast and bake cleaning only "restores" a DPF to about 60% cleanliness. That means the filter may look clean on the outside, but internally, soot and ash remain trapped deep inside the substrate.

The result?
- Filters plug sooner
- Regens become more frequent
- Downtime returns faster than expected

If you’re cleaning DPFs only to deal with the same emissions issues weeks later, the problem usually isn’t the truck — it’s the level of cleaning.

There has to be a better way.

Scrap it?! Or can it be saved?

A customer brought this component into our Lynx Ottawa branch with serious corrosion and failed material around the housing.

At first glance, replacement looked like the obvious answer. But our shop tech, Matthew Perras, was up for the challenge.

Matthew removed the failed material, fabricated new sections, rebuilt the structure, and completed the weld repair in-house — ultimately helping the customer save over $25,000 compared to a replacement.

This is the kind of work that happens behind the scenes in our shops every day. Our technicians are not just replacing parts. They are problem-solving, fabricating, rebuilding, and finding practical ways to help customers get more life out of their equipment.

Great work by Matthew and the Lynx Ottawa team. 👏
