The ride from the Silver Mountain Lodge was only the bottom layer of a 7 layer cake on this adventure. Traveling around 94kms from km24 (Silver Mountain Lodge) Taylor's Brook Road to the trail to the base of Mount Sykes was only step one. Then it was riding through a maze of alders to reach the starting point of the vertical climb to the summit. Next, traversing our way through thick forests, following anything that resembles a path (mostly moose paths). Until we finally reach the rocky cliffs we would have to climb to reach the top. Careful to test our grip before taking the next step we slowly and cautiously climbed our way to the top. Ok, the first plateaus. The actual top was another rocky climb ahead. After reaching the top the 360° views made it all worth it. We circled the outer edge of the mountain, the views getting more breathtaking with every step. Sheer cliffs dropping hundreds of feet, to a quaint little pond nestled into a low area on the top of this solid rock.
After circling the entire mountain we ended up back where we climbed up. Now, next step to climb down. Its always easier to go up than down in my opinion. Safely making the climb down we had to find out way through the thick forests back to the ATV's. Again with no visible trails and everything looking the same. With the help of my tracker on my phone we found the ATV's and began our ride back. At this point we were getting quite hungry so we decided to stop on the beach of Sheffield Lake and have a fire and cook-up. Cheese smokies on a hotdog bun was on the menu. Along with a Starbucks coffee (instant of course). The lake was dead flat, not a draft of wind and the beach was lined with drift wood. This was a recipe for an epic campfire. But that's a story for another time.

Another epic adventure complete. Silver Mountain Lodge to Hawkes Bay and onto Port Aux Chois. 300 + kms and some amazing views. We even hiked down to Russell Falls, that was the absolute highlight of the trip. Highly recommended.
