Hamilton Community Sharing Hamilton Community Sharing is an independent community resource for people across Hamilton, Ontario. People. Places. Stories. A stronger Hamilton.

We share useful local information, community events, service updates, neighbourhood stories, civic explainers and deeper reporting on issues that affect the city. Our goal is simple: make it easier to understand what is happening in Hamilton, find useful resources, discover what is happening around the community and have better-informed conversations about the city we share. Alongside quick daily updates, we publish longer evidence-based articles that examine local institutions, public decisions and community issues in greater depth. We aim to distinguish facts from claims, use primary sources whenever possible and provide enough context for readers to reach their own conclusions. Hamilton Community Sharing is independently operated and is not affiliated with the City of Hamilton or any government, police service, political party or news organization.

Final day for the Hamilton Farmers’ Market Harvest Festival

The five-week fall celebration wraps up today, Saturday, October 10.

The market is open 8 a.m.–5 p.m. at 35 York Boulevard. From 10 a.m.–2 p.m., local artist Karla Maria Creativo will lead a community mural on the lower level, inviting visitors to help complete a harvest-season ofrenda created with vendor input.

The festival also includes rotating pop-up vendors, seasonal food and shopping, an outdoor harvest garden and community programming. The City lists it for all ages and families. Individual vendor hours may differ, and neither official listing shows a separate festival admission or registration requirement.

Hamilton approves downtown rental heat bylaw pilot

Hamilton City Council approved a new Adequate Temperature Bylaw pilot on October 8.

Starting June 1, 2027, landlords within the Downtown Hamilton pilot area will be required to keep at least one habitable space in each rental unit at or below 26°C during the May 15–September 15 period. The pilot runs through September 15, 2028.

The City estimates about 15,800 rental units could fall within the pilot. Enforcement will be complaint-based, and exemptions may be available when building or infrastructure limits make compliance unfeasible.

This is not a citywide standard yet. The pilot will measure costs, impacts and implementation challenges before Council considers broader use. Information for renters and landlords will be provided before launch.

Waterdown recreation centre design: community meeting tonight

Hamilton residents can get an early look at how public feedback is shaping the concept design for Waterdown’s future community recreation centre.

The community conversation runs tonight, Tuesday, October 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harry Howell Arena Community Room, 27 Highway 5 West, Flamborough. The City says the session will review what it heard from residents and how that input is informing the design.

The project is one of three growth-related community recreation centres identified for concept design. Glanbrook and Fruitland-Winona are the other two.

Check the official event page before heading out. The Engage Hamilton page also has project background and an online survey.
