Once again the WPAA “West Peace Aviation Association” In association with Adventure Aviation, COPA “Canadian Owners and Pilots Association”, and the Grande Prairie Airport will be putting on an event called Discover Aviation.
So what is Discover Aviation?
For those of you who don’t know, this is a program for youth aged 8 - 17 years of age.
What do they Get?
A free Introduction to the world of Aviation. It all starts with a walk through of an actual aircraft. What all the parts of an aircraft are called. What happens when an aircraft might get worked on and what do aircraft mechanics do when working on aircraft. Then they get put into groups and get to witness and learn about aircraft ramp operations and aircraft movements. Once a plane is ready, these lucky youth get to meet an actual pilot that will introduce them to the sky and air operations. They will get to board a small aircraft, taxi out, take off and go for a 30 minute introductory flight around the Grande Prairie area. Once completed they get a care package and with COPA’s partnership with Hangaaar, each participant gets a one year access to their online PPL “Private Pilot License” ground school. You can check out Hangaaar’s website at https://hangaaar.com/
When is this event?
This event will be held on Saturday September 9, 2023 and starts at 10:00am
How do you sign up for this event?
We will be posting a link to sign up. You will have to follow the link or go to our website on the day it goes live. We will be live on Friday September 1, 2023 for registration. Each participant will have a time slot that they will be required to show up for the event.
The time it goes live will be announced soon. You will have to be registered to be allowed into the event. There is a limited amount of spots available.
Where is this event?
It is hosted at Adventure Aviation. They are located at the Grande Prairie Airport at the east hanger line, just North of the STARS hanger.
Who’s planes will they be flying in?
These planes are donated by local pilots who own and fly them. They donate their time, aircraft and fuel to make this event possible. These individuals want to showcase to the youth the passion and excitement you get from aviation. As well as giving them insight into what it takes to become a pilot, or an aircraft mechanic. What it might take to become a flight service specialists or controller with Nav Canada and the other various jobs that are available throughout the industry.
Please take a minute to thank the many volunteers at this event, without their help we wouldn’t be able to have such an amazing event. Trust me, if your looking to talk to someone about aviation, this is the place to be. You won’t find very many people that won’t chat your ear off about the ins and outs of aviation and flying at this event. 😉
We look forward to seeing all the excitement and smiles at the event. We do understand that not everyone will be able to register because there is limited space. Keep in mind we do host this event every year and hope that you will be able to attend the next event if you are unable to register.
