WOW, Dufferin County… look what we can do when we come together 💛

A huge thank you to every school, business, organization, community group, family, and individual who participated in our very first Can-Do Challenge this June.

Because of YOU, our shelves are fuller heading into the summer months a time when many local children lose access to school food programs and families often feel the strain a little more deeply.

From canned soup and vegetables to tuna, pasta sauce, fruit, and pop-top cans for our emergency kits, every single donation will help support neighbours right here in our community.

Thank you for collecting, donating, sharing posts, challenging friends, building towers of cans, and showing up with such kindness and generosity.

This challenge may have been about canned food… but what we really collected was community 💛

⚓ Happy Day of the Seafarer ⚓

Today we recognize the people who keep goods, supplies, and food moving across the world’s oceans often spending long periods away from home to do it.

It’s one of those jobs many people don’t think about… but our communities rely on every single day 🌎💛

Here’s to safe travels, calm waters, and the people helping keep the world connected as we continue building a well nourished community.

Did you know? Canned food actually predates the can opener by about 50 years 😳

Early iron and tin cans were so thick that soldiers had to chisel them open with bayonets or smash them with hammers. Suddenly that stubborn soup can in your pantry doesn’t seem so bad 😂

Thankfully, canned food has come a long way and today it continues to be one of the most important ways our community helps stock the shelves at the food bank.

As part of our very first Can-Do Challenge this June, we’re collecting canned goods to help support local families and the 500+ children we serve every month during the leaner summer months when school food programs pause.

One can really can make a difference 💛

🌍 Desertification & Drought Day – June 17 🌾

Healthy land grows healthy food 💛

Today is a reminder that soil, water, and sustainable growing practices matter more than ever, not just around the world, but right here in our own communities too.

From community gardens to local farms, every effort to care for the land helps build a more resilient and well nourished community 🌱

Did you know? Food banks don’t just need “meal” items, canned fruit is one of the most appreciated treats for children during the summer months when school snack programs pause.

With over 500 local children supported through the food bank every month, shelf-stable items like canned peaches, pears, mandarin oranges, and fruit cocktail help families add something nutritious, sweet, and easy to pack into lunches and snacks during the summer.
As part of our very first Can-Do Challenge, we’re encouraging the community to help us stock our shelves before the leaner months ahead.
One can really can make a difference.

🌊 Happy World Oceans Day! 🌊

A little reminder today that healthy oceans help feed the world 💙

From the air we breathe to the food on our tables, our oceans do a lot more for us than people realize.

So today feels like a good day to appreciate the waves, the wildlife, and maybe even that one person already posting beach photos 😄

Here’s to protecting the planet and building a more well nourished community—on land and at sea 💛
