Update (8:19pm) - Highway 35 has reopened in both directions.

Update (3:17pm) - Traffic is being advised to use Kushog Lake Road to avoid the closure.

Road Closure (May 27, 2026 2:47pm) - Haliburton Highlands OPP are advising of a road closure in the area of Highway 35 between Little Hawk Lake Road and Buckslide Road, Algonquin Highlands, due to a motor vehicle collision. Please avoid the area and plan alternate routes. ^h.n.

Just crazy hopefully those stats will drop as the season goes on.

Over the long weekend, the Haliburton
OPP observed an increase in traffic to the area as seasonal residents and visitors came to enjoy Haliburton county.

With the increase in traffic, police initiated numerous traffic stops resulting in more than 100 Provincial Offences Act charges, 96 warnings and 3 criminal charges for impaired operation. Haliburton OPP would like to remind everyone of our shared responsibility to keep our roads safe.

Our first Household Hazardous Waste Event is this Saturday.

Household hazardous waste should never be landfilled. It requires careful handling and appropriate disposal to keep staff, residents, and the environment safe.

Attend any of these 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗛𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 to safely dispose of items like oil and gas.

Minden Hills residents can attend any event in the County.

✅Take leftover paint and paint cans to Home Hardware year-round. This includes paint aerosols!
✅Empty propane tanks/cylinders are accepted at the Scotch Line Landfill
✅Household batteries can be recycled at any of our waste disposal sites
✅Lighting material is accepted at the Scotch Line Landfill

I would like to say sorry to our customers these last two months have been a doozy for us. unfortunately our hours may have to suffer do to this. Would like to make a shout out to Durham hospital oncology department for being so quick to provide care, Peterborough hospital doctor for being on the ball. Also to the doctor who treated our other child, you rock! Honestly thank you to the doctor who treated myself for a whole other reason.
