🧪 What color is your car’s fluid? (And why it matters!)
You don’t need to be a certified mechanic to spot a problem under the hood, sometimes all it takes is a quick look at the color of your car's fluids!
Catching dirty or degraded fluid early can save you thousands of dollars in engine, transmission, or brake repairs down the road.
Here is a quick cheat sheet on what healthy vs. dirty fluids look like:
🔴 Transmission Fluid
Healthy: Bright red / pinkish and translucent.
Warning Sign: Dark brown or black with a burnt smell. (Time for a flush before gears start slipping!)
🟡 Brake Fluid
Healthy: Clear to light amber / yellow.
Warning Sign: Dark brown or cloudy. (Means moisture and dirt have built up, reducing stopping power.)
🟢 Engine Coolant / Antifreeze
Healthy: Bright green, pink, or orange (depending on your car).
Warning Sign: Rusty brown, murky, or sludgy. (Can lead to engine overheating!)
🟤 Engine Oil
Healthy: Amber / golden brown.
Warning Sign: Pitch black or milky/frothy. (Milky oil means coolant is leaking into your engine—get it checked immediately!)
