Well it’s June 1st and CN pulled it off and have the old bridge rebuilt and lifting again. They will continue to work on it and hopefully get it to lift higher in the future. As of now there is 25’ clearance. It looks great.

Took a ride as far as Amy Point this evening.
Still some ice in Hopkins Bay. Should be all gone tomorrow.

Good morning everyone.
Work on the new 5Mile lift bridge is underway.
I have been in contact with a fellow from Transport Canada and he sent me the proposal of the new bridge. He wants public comment on what the boaters think.
You can go online and look at the details.
All there info is on the photos on this post.
Please feel free to share on other related pages.
Thanks. Al.

Looks like the giant cement counterweight is finally gone. The constant jackhammering and explosions have ended. Armstrongs big sectional barge is parked under the bridge the CN crew is working on and under the bent bridge.
Anyone want to speculate what will happen next?

After reviewing the comments from this mornings post and receiving a couple of phone calls I realize that maybe I worded it poorly.
I agree that the lift bridge needs to be replaced. Whether your boat is 12 feet tall or 43 feet tall.
I just talked to Transport Canada again.
They would like to hear from the public on what impact a bridge that won’t lift will have on them.
Please don’t roast me. I only live near the bridge and everyone is calling me.
The email address is.

They want to hear from tall boat owners.

So I have been contacted by Transport Canada and CN Rail. They both asked me if I knew how tall the boats are that use the lift bridge?
I said there are barges, houseboats, sail boats and large cruising boats that use the bridge.
The stationary bridge is 115” clearance as of yesterday.
Could anyone with tall boats chime in on this post with the clearance they need to make it under. I will forward it to my contact at Transport Canada.
Eric Johnson,Boomer Redford, Tom Dougherty,
Any Sailboat people.

After a some modifications with help from family and friends I was able to chop the wheelhouse down about 9 inches.
I still have some fine tuning to do but the good news is I made it through.
Rainy Lake Boat Taxi barge service is back in the North Arm.

Another amazing day on Rainy Lake. Heading east on my barge this morning.
Winding down after another busy season.
Working on a short list of chores to do before the weather turns cold.
Thanks to all who contacted me and sent me out on the lake.

Well it’s been a while since I have posted.
I just heard from one of my friends and she said what’s going on! Thanks for getting me going Amy.
The ice continues to hang in there in the north arm. I will have all my boats in the water on the weekend and going full bore next week.
Water levels are much more normal this year.
Be safe out there everybody.

Launched the Boat Taxi today. We tried to make it to Stanji to start a really long list of chores to do. We could only make it to the Causeway. North arm is plugged solid.
I heard some people went through Stanji and out the north end but couldn’t get much further.
Sand Bay and Swell Bay and Red Gut is open. So I heard.
Went down into the River at Rainer. The current is strong.
Water is still rising. Be safe out there.

Took a little ride in my cargo boat today. The good news is snowmobile season is finally over. Not to be negative about that cause Carol and I had some awesome sled rides. The bad news for the lakes is the ice is going to hang around till about the 15th or so.
We are also experiencing high lake levels. I’ve never seen it this high so early in the spring.
RLBT will be ready and will hit the water running. Message me if you need a property check done.
I will keep the updates and pics coming as it goes.
