What your tires might be telling you.
Your tires can reveal underlying vehicle issues. Here’s what different tread wear patterns may indicate:

-Worn in the centre: Over-inflation
-Worn on the outer edges: Under-inflation
-Choppy or uneven wear: Suspension issues
-Angled or diagonal wear: Alignment problems
-Vibration at certain speeds: Likely a balance issue

Catching these signs early can help you avoid more serious and costly problems down the road.

Summer tires are here — are your tires in good condition? A quick walk-around inspection can help spot obvious issues. Make sure your tires are properly inflated. Most modern vehicles have tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) that will alert you if a tire is low.

Beyond inflation, tread life and overall tire condition should be assessed regularly by a professional. At , we inspect your tires during every service appointment.

Every season brings its own driving challenges, and as the warmer months roll in across Ontario, it’s the perfect time to talk about summer tires. Did you know your tires are the only contact point between your vehicle and the road? A poor set of tires can ruin your driving experience and, more importantly, pose serious safety risks to you and others. Vibrations, shaking or excessive road noise can often be traced back to tire issues. In fact, tire condition is one of the leading factors in motor vehicle collisions — just ask the towing division at . We see it more often than we should.

Ontario has introduced a digital safety inspection process. How is this done?
Besides taking a test drive and inspection of the interior and exterior, the vehicle is lifted for an underbody inspection. This includes checking the steering, suspension, brakes, tires, wheels, lines, mounts and other safety components beneath the vehicle. The technician will record tire tread depth, tire pressure, and brake measurements.
As part of the digital inspection, the technician must also take pictures of the tire tread depth and brake component measurements. Once the inspection is complete, the technician will decide whether the vehicle passes or fails based on the government's standards. A copy of the inspection results will be provided to the vehicle owner. If the vehicle fails, we'll discuss the issues with the owner and plan the next steps.
If the vehicle passes, the technician will sign the inspection certificate, and a digital copy will be uploaded to the licensing office.

By now, you’ve likely heard that Ontario has introduced a digital safety inspection process. Automotive and truck repair facilities now use tablets to complete safety inspections and issue certificates. It’s important to note that the safety standards for these inspections have not changed. The criteria for whether your vehicle passes or fails an inspection remain the same. What has changed is the process we use to complete the inspection. When a vehicle or trailer is brought in for certification, we assign a licensed technician to conduct the entire inspection. The technician begins by taking the vehicle for a test drive to ensure it performs as intended. After the test drive, the technician brings the vehicle into the shop and inspects the interior, noting any safety-related warning lights. Next, they check the exterior, including the body condition, lights, glass, wipers and other safety components. The technician will then inspect the engine bay and document any issues.

Are you considering a Hybrid Electric Vehicle?
It’s important to understand that, despite using hybrid technology, these vehicles still require regular maintenance. Hybrids still use an internal combustion engine, which requires the same maintenance as conventional vehicles. Some key maintenance items to keep in mind include:
Engine Oil: Regular oil changes according to the manufacturer’s guidelines.
Air Filters: Inspect and replace air filters as needed.
Spark Plugs: Since the hybrid still uses an ICE, spark plugs must be inspected and replaced at recommended intervals.
Transmission and Driveline: These vehicles may have different transmission types, but all require fluid level checks and occasional fluid replacements.
Coolant: Hybrid vehicles use coolant to cool both the engine and inverter unit. It’s important to check the coolant levels and replace it when necessary.
12-Volt Battery: Hybrids still have a standard 12-Volt battery that powers smaller components. Regular inspections are necessary, and it will need replacement once it’s worn out.
Brakes: Inspect brake pads and moving components for wear, and lubricate as needed. Brake fluid must also be checked and replaced as necessary.
Steering, Suspension and Tires: These should be inspected for wear and replaced when needed.

What’s important for Hybrid Electric Vehicle Maintenance?
One important aspect of hybrid maintenance is the high-voltage (HV) battery pack. The voltage levels of these batteries can vary significantly depending on the manufacturer — ranging from 30 volts in smaller packs to several hundred volts in larger ones. Temperature management is also critical for the longevity of these batteries. For example, the Toyota Prius uses a cooling fan system to maintain the battery at an optimal temperature. These batteries recharge through regenerative braking, where the drive motors function as generators during deceleration. The transition between the HV battery and the gas engine is managed electronically, so the driver doesn’t notice it. However, these batteries will wear out over time and can be costly to replace — sometimes approaching $10,000. This is why regular maintenance is crucial to ensure everything is working as it should.
We’re happy to discuss the pros and cons of any vehicle you’re considering. Don’t hesitate to contact is at before making a decision.

What are the pros and cons to owning a Hybrid Electric Vehicle?
One obvious advantage is the improved fuel economy, as hybrids burn less fuel (or none at all) when the ICE is off or assisted by the electric motor. However, a significant downside is the higher purchase cost. Hybrid vehicles typically cost more than non-hybrid gasoline vehicles due to the additional parts and technology involved.

What is a Hybrid Electric Vehicle?
We live in a world of ever-evolving technology, and the automotive industry is no exception. These advancements have led to significant changes in vehicles over the years. Hybrid electric vehicles were introduced as a solution to reduce vehicle emissions. The concept is simple, and it’s certainly not new by 2026. An HEV combines a smaller traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) with a battery-powered electric drive motor. The electric motor serves as a secondary power source when the main battery charge is low. Shutting down the ICE reduces emissions, making it more environmentally friendly. Although there are various designs of hybrid vehicles, this basic technology remains the same across most models.
