In 1970, American Motors Corporation (AMC) entered the muscle-car wars with the unforgettable AMC Rebel Machine.

Featuring its iconic red, white and blue paint scheme, aggressive hood scoop and powerful 390 cubic-inch V8 producing 340 horsepower, this was no ordinary cruiser.

• Approximately 2,326 were built

CORY’S TIPS #11

NOT WORKING ON YOUR PROJECT ANYTIME SOON? STORE IT SMART.

Sometimes life gets busy and a project has to sit. Six months can turn into two years pretty quickly.

But how you store it now can save you a massive headache when you’re finally ready to get back at it.

KEEP THE PROJECT TOGETHER.
Whenever possible, store the parts inside the vehicle or immediately with it. Don’t let one project slowly migrate into five different corners of the garage.

BOX & LABEL EVERYTHING.
Group parts by area: front end, interior, doors, engine bay, trim, hardware, etc. Label every box clearly.

BAG THE SMALL STUFF.
Bolts, clips, brackets and fasteners should be bagged and labelled with exactly where they came from. “Random bolts” is not a useful category two years from now.

MAKE AN INVENTORY.
Keep a simple list of what you already have, what needs replacing and what still needs to be purchased. Take photos of the boxes and their contents too.

DON’T THROW OLD PARTS AWAY TOO QUICKLY.
Even damaged originals can be valuable references for mounting locations, dimensions and identifying the correct replacement.

PROTECT EVERYTHING FROM MOISTURE.
Keep parts clean, dry and protected from rust, rodents and accidental damage during long-term storage.

CORY’S TIP:

Make life easier for “Future You.”

When you finally pull that project back out, you want to open the car and find everything organized and accounted for—not spend three weekends asking:

“I KNOW I bought that part… where the heck did I put it?”

Good organization also prevents accidentally buying parts twice—or discovering halfway through the build that an important original piece disappeared years ago.

Keep it together. Box it. Label it. Inventory it.

RESTORATION MYTH MONDAY

MYTH:
“If a shop can do bodywork and paint, they can do a quality restoration.”

TRUTH:
Not every restoration or body shop produces the same level of work.

Anyone can pick up a sander, apply filler or spray paint. Quality restoration takes experience, knowledge and attention to detail.

It’s knowing where problems commonly hide. Recognizing rust, previous repairs and poor bodywork before they become bigger problems. Understanding panel gaps, body lines, metalwork, primers and paint systems—and knowing when something needs to be corrected instead of simply covered up.

That’s also where trust matters.
