Only days to the start of the 2022 Dakar. Chris Evans ( former manager of Cyril Despres) Provides his thoughts on this year's race. I personally think it will come down to the usual players Sunderland, Price, Brabec. My wild card would be Daniel Sanders; he is fast and has good navigation skills. After a massive crash at last year's rally, he finished the stage showing the determination to finish. Bareda has the talent but cannot control himself. His blind competitiveness gets him in trouble all the time. If he can keep that under control, he could win. Andrew Short is a talented and fast rider; however, he has not shown the tenacity to continue when things go sideways. He quit last year's event due to bad fuel. I witnessed Cyril Depress in the 2010 Dakar stopped in the Atacama desert due to bad fuel. He drained the fuel then scrounged fuel off other competitors to finish the stage. That is what it takes. In any case, my opinion aside, there are some very fast and talented riders. It will be an exciting Dakar this year.
