This customer's prop was replaced by a diver with a new prop and used the same old shaft keystock without inspecting it for corrosion. The key stock was still in the shaft and prop key slot, however it was completely sheared in 2 pieces showing pink corrosion which leads to many questions.
If you are going to change props in the water, take the time to inspect the keystock or else you will need an emergency tow and lift, which costs way way more than the Quick Lift fees.

We've been so busy with lifting vessels that we almost forgot to post our latest rather lager lift.. one of the biggest vessels lifted yet by Valet Yacht Services .. a LOA- 75' Azimut, our 50mt travel lift looked a wee small but the boat only weighed in at 80,000 pounds.

Help help, "I'm sinking"-Emergency Lift at the boat yard today..

Here's why...

Using standard plastic (like nylon) for thru-hulls below the waterline is dangerous because they become brittle with age, are vulnerable to UV degradation, and have low impact resistance. A sheared fitting or cracked fl**ge allows water to flood the boat, making it the one of the leading causes of boats sinking.

The primary risks of using standard plastic thru-hulls include: Brittleness and UV

Damage:
Ordinary plastics, especially nylon, degrade from exposure to sunlight and temperature changes, causing them to crack or snap.
Shear Stress: The weight of attached hoses and constant hull vibration can snap the fitting right at the fl**ge, creating an open hole.

Impact and Thread Failure: Standard plastic is less forgiving during installation. Over-tightening hose clamps or a minor strike against a dock can cause hidden cracks.

Approved Alternatives for Below the Water line for critical below-waterline fittings (intakes, drains, and their corresponding seacocks), marine standards require robust materials such as
Bronze:
The industry's gold standard for durability, strength, and corrosion resistance.

Marelon: A high-tech, fiberglass-reinforced polymer composite specifically engineered to be completely corrosion-proof and strong enough for underwater use.

Unfortunately this thru hull was attached to the waste holding tank and it's a super disgusting smelly job to clean up.

Some clients ask where Valet Yacht Services is, well now you can't miss us. Our new Sign, we call it "Jarret Orange"🍊. Jarret is the fellow who power washes, sands and paints bottoms as well assisting Stratos on the Travel Lift. Jarret is the fellow who wears safety orange coveralls and rubber gloves, hats and on occasion orange or white safety hardhat. Jarret has been in the Marine industry for 20+ years with Lindstrom Marine, Maple Bay Marina and now with Valet since our grand opening April 1,2022. Can you imagine how many boats he has washed and bottom painted?
