Full detail completed on this 2017 Ford Edge! This vehicle came in loaded with dog hair, hay, and thick layer of dust on the interior, and heavy imbedded contaminates in the clear coat and iron deposits. But we turned that around bringing it back to better then new with decontamination and seal with C2V3, and seals the interior with leather protection, and matte dash! *** Lewis St Fire Fundraiser UPDATE ***

Today we are very relieved to announce that with the combined efforts of our local ESS resources, friends from Cowichan Housing Association, New Life Community Baptist Church, Duncan BC, Klean Detailz, and various other sponsors, temporary long term housing for the victims of the Lewis Street Fire was retained late last week for the next 90 days!!!!!

This effort was a great undertaking for our core of organizers and we all lobbied hard to find a solution that relieved the pressure on these victims. The next 90 days will allow those who lost their home to take a moment and breathe, find their footing and get working on finding appropriate permanent housing that meets their needs.

What does this mean for any donations?
With respect to donations we are putting an indefinite hold on all donations of clothing and furniture. So many of you have done something amazing, it is beyond words. Even today we are getting requests to drop off donations of clothing. It is unlike anything we have ever seen. That is an incredible statement of humanity. One that we as a community should all be proud of.
With respect to furniture, house fixtures and kitchen wear. As each client, finds their home, our furniture team (lead by Henry at New Life Community Baptist Church, Duncan BC) will determine the need and we will broadcast out a donation request at that time. We ask that you keep a hot eye right here on the Medix page for those updates, as well as our other team members from Klean Detailz and New Life Church.

What does this mean for financial donations?
Due to the success of our conversations for temp long term housing, we will be able to redirect funding to assisting with other immediate needs for each family / apartment renter. This will continue to include housing needs like, deposits on a new home, assistance with moving trucks ect, and other needs such as medical, unique needs and personal assistance. We will be closing the GoFundMe drive at the end of January, all proceeds from the fundraiser will be placed into trust and we will be working with the Cowichan Housing Association to disburse funds based on victim request. If you would like to donate please go to: gf.me/u/zd7iat

A personal note to everyone.

I know I have said this a lot, but I wanted to take a min and really thank all the amazing people that have done nothing but give with their whole heart.
When I moved to the Cowichan Valley 2 years ago, I wanted so much to NOT be here. I bought into the rhetoric and the misery of so many people, who did nothing but run their mouth about how bad the Valley is. In years prior to moving here, I had only had glimpses of the area based on when I was working here, and truthfully a glimpse does little to change the mind of anyone.
But on my first day I wandered through Walmart, exhausted, annoyed, with my hands full of last minute things I couldn't find. I was clearly struggling with my patience and just plainly functioning, and I could only imagine the 'bear with a tooth ache' mood I must have been publicly displaying. Suddenly an older woman came up to me, out of no where, put her hand on my shoulder and said 'Honey, take this. You look like you need it'. And proceeded to push a cart directly in front of me and without missing a beat, started to take things out of my arms and place them in the cart. Afterwards, I stammered to find a simple thank you, and as I stuttered it out (mainly out of shock and pure gratitude) she placed her hand on my back, rubbing my shoulder, looked at me and smiled. We spoke for a couple of minutes, the whole time not ever knowing her name or anything about her, but we spoke as if we had been friends for years. When she walked away, my angst for the day was washed away, and my opinion of coming to the Valley was starting to changed. That was 2 years ago.
Over the last 2 years my mood and my perspective of this Valley has been completely reversed. I have had the absolute joy of meeting such a diverse people and culture, experiencing the amazing strength of the local small businesses and its owners, and experiencing first hand the true beauty and history of this amazing Valley. But it was the moments over the last 19 days that this Valley and its people have really shown the best humanity has to offer. Meeting so many of you, coming in to donate, or to ask if they could help, or taking a quick minute to hear a story of how their local community packed an entire truck full of supplies. For people they have never met, to donate over 15,000 sqft of clothing, literally filled an entire church and 4 seacans FULL, and have raised over $30,000 in funds to help is simply mind blowing. This Valley, and its people are the truest definition of a caring community and the example that all communities around the world should strive to achieve.
Getting to know the Cowichan Valley and its residents has been such a pleasure for me, and I can whole heartedly tell anyone looking to know the Valley, that this is a true hidden gem of the island, and of Canada.
Thank you to each and every one of you who opened their heart and gave so much. You are all amazing.
Lyle

Here is the most recent update from our partner coordinators Medix ems, regarding current donation needs and future plans!

*** Lewis St Fire Update *** - 04/01/2021 - 1038hrs

Ok folks here is the most current and urgent need we have for donations. Before I expand into this I just want to once again thank everyone who donated up, even up to this moment, for everything that you have done and given of yourself. From our core organizers to our volunteers and to all of you. This has been a renewal of humanity like none other.

As of this morning we have looked at our current capacity for clothing donations and we are at maximum. This means we can not at this time take anymore donations, with the exceptions of below on this update.

What is urgently needed:
- new and unused packaged men's underwear (all sizes, larger prefered)
- new and unused packaged socks
- new and unused packaged woman's underwear (all sizes, larger prefered)
- new and unused packaged woman's bras and sport bras (all sizes, larger prefered )

As for furniture we are as of yet to get access to the building and therefore do not know what this need will be. Please hold onto any donation or furniture, household items or kitchenware as we will be putting a call out soon. If you have large furniture donations we would ask that when we are ready to once again accept donations please contact us at a number which will be provided at that time, to arrange for drop off.

In the mean time we will still be collecting cash donations through our GoFundMe page. Cash donations will be going toward providing additional housing as it becomes needed, pay for transport assistance, additional personal items that have not been listed or are otherwise not able to be donated and unique expenses that victims may need for their continued welfare during this time. Please consider a donation in this method as well.

Well Cowichan Valley, we are absolutely blown away! We cannot believe the response and outreach you have given. In addition to the 8500sqft facility we were also able to fill 2.5 20ft seacans with donations! Our priority right now is to get supplies, donations to those affected by the fire, and we are working with CVRD ESS to get these distributed quickly! Your donations and support go above and beyond the call of duty and will help so many people, anything that is not used to support those affected by Thursday’s fire, will go to centres and facilities who need them most! Thank you so much! And a huge shout out to Easymove storage and JP construction supplies for coming at a moments notice with 3 seacans!

For some perspective of amazing generosity and amount that one community can do in just one day, here are some photos of our sorting location, this over an 8,500sqft facility that was filled and there is still a filled to the roof 20ft trailer and 3ton box truck of donations awaiting to be unloaded, we will continue to sort with an amazing group of volunteers tomorrow and anything that is used by those displaced, will be going to different homes, shelters, and facility’s where they are needed. Once again thank you so much everyone that donated, and to every volunteer none of this could happen without you!

01/02/2021

We are so thankful for everyone who came out today! This was an unbelievable outpour of kindness and generosity from everyone not just from the Cowichan Valley but we had people come all the way from Nanaimo and Victoria. We were returning from our jobs for the day and drove into a parking lot of vehicles full of donations and people ready to give their entire day to help transport and sort. We would also like to lend a huge shout out to my entire team of guys, Josh Dingman, Matthew Laurie, Dallas Deplonty and to Mastercraft flooring for the absolute beauty of a truck and to the man behind the wheel of the beast Christopher James Kulhawy, who all came out within 20 minutes notice and worked well into the evening to ensure everything got transported quickly. I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Medix, Lyle and Lydia for all of their efforts in organizing to make sure everything runs smoothly get distributed quickly and to all of the volunteers who helped unload and sort late into the evening, you guys are fantastic! This is by far the largest response of donations and generosity we have ever seen! We will be continuing to sort tomorrow and will keep you updated! Thank you everyone! The response is absolutely amazing!

01/02/2021

Thank you everyone for your amazing response and donations! However we are putting a hold on the donations for today as we do need time to transport the donations and sort them! We will keep you updated on and supplies still needed!

***UPDATE 30/12/2020***

Due to an ongoing RCMP investigation of the Grieve Rd incident, donations toward this incident will not be accepted at this time.

Additionally, the family of the Quamichan Chimney fire have not reached out through local sources for assistance, so we are closing donations for this incident as well.

We wish all the best to both households in their recovery.

***UPDATE 26/12/2020***

Currently we are waiting on the RCMP to call us back about information for the 2 families affected in the fires yesterday. At this point we are going to hold on donations until we have more information.

Please continue to follow this post and we will keep you updated as we get news.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Medix EMS is learning some more details about the home fire situations unfolding. Sortly after 9am, 2 homes in the Cowichan Valley were reported fully engulfed in flames. A large number of fire crew have responded to both, including units from 3 other districts. Right now, we know that these families will need our help. We are unsure of the number of people affected and their situation but we understand that the damage to homes are extensive and possible total loss.

Effective immediately we will be collecting clothing, household items, food and personal necessities as well as any donations of gift cards or cash. We will be reaching out to our partners in disaster managment and in our network of local businesses to arrange some sort of support network.

We are asking all those people who see this post to consider helping these families in this desperate time of need.

If you would like to donate anything we have 2 drop off locations available starting tomorrow during open hours.

Locations:
Medix EMS Duncan - 24 Station St.
Klean Detailz - #4 - 2984 Boys Rd.

You can direct message us here if you have questions. We will do our best to respond within 24 hours.
