The Nova Scotia Skills Competition brings together students and apprentices from across the province to compete in their chosen skilled trades and technologies. Bronze, silver, and gold medals are awarded to top competitors, with gold medalists advancing to the Skills Canada National Competition as members of Team Nova Scotia.

BENEFITS FOR APPRENTICES

The application window for Canada Summer Job Grants is now open
All applications must be in by January 12, 2023.

The Automotive Sector Council is assisting employers in applying for the Canada Summer Job Grant.

To Clarify: Canada Summer Job Grants is administered by Service Canada and all communications concerning your application will be with their offices. The Automotive Sector Council is assisting the application process only. This does not guarantee approval of the grant. This Federal Grant, if received, will reimburse you for 50% of student wages for the summer.

We can also assist you in connecting with students for the summer. Look for future communications regarding our TestDrive Summer 2023 program.

TestDrive is a youth career exploration program that offers students in Grade 10 and 11 the opportunity to train and work in a variety of motive power trades.

Accepted applicants can earn up to 3 high school co-op credits, 300 pre-apprenticeship hours, and experience motive power safety training at Nova Scotia Community College.

Students are connected with employers through the program for 200 hours of paid summer employment.

Don't forget to share with family members over the Holiday the open registration for TestDrive!

Students can earn three co-op credits, 300 Apprenticeship hours towards Trade Certification, training experience at Nova Scotia Community College, and a paid summer work placement with an employer. The experience creates career awareness for students and starts them on a path to an apprenticeship.

TestDrive is currently offered in:

Annapolis Valley Regional Centre of Education
Cape Breton Regional Centre of Education
Chignecto-Central Regional Centre of Education
Halifax Regional Centre of Education
South Shore Regional Centre of Education
Strait Regional Centre of Education
Tri-County Regional Centre of Education
and Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provincial schools that are located in these regions

PSA from Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunities (NSLEO/The League):

The Partnership for Access Awareness Nova Scotia (PAANS), a committee of the Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunities, is now accepting applications for the academic year beginning September 2023. Through the incredible support of our valued sponsors, twelve scholarships are available: four scholarships in the amount of $1,500.00 and eight in the amount of $2,000.00 to assist Nova Scotians with disabilities in their pursuit of post-secondary education and training,

To be considered, scholarship applicants must:
· Be a person with a permanent disability. 'Permanent Disability' means a limitation that restricts the ability of a person to perform the activities necessary to participate in educational activities or in the labour force within the range considered normal. This limitation is expected to remain with the person for life;
· Be a permanent resident of Nova Scotia;
· Be entering or continuing studies, at the undergraduate level, in a Canadian post-secondary institution recognized by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada; and
· Not be involved in the selection process or be a close family member of any scholarship selection committee member.

To apply, all parts of the scholarship application form must be completed in full and all supporting documentation must be included and received via MAIL or EMAIL by the Partnership for Access Awareness NS no later than 4:30 pm on Friday, April 28th, 2023.

The attached application form will also be available through the Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunities website at www.nsleo.com, the Access Awareness Nova Scotia site at www.aawns.ca as well as through school guidance counselors.
