EKRC Flyers
Cranbrook & Kimberley RC Modelers

The EKRC Flyers have been flying at the Rampart field since the 1980's when the grandfather of radio control, Al Ritchie, taught many Cranbrook and Kimberley locals to fly.

Yessssss……
I’ll go fix the lock at Rampart tomorrow!

Effective tomorrow, Friday August 28, at noon PDT the Off Road Vehicle (ORV) prohibition is rescinded in the Southeast, Cariboo, Coastal and Kamloops Fire Centres.

We recognize that ORVs play an important role in recreation, hunting and accessing the outdoors for many. Restrictions are only considered when multiple factors indicate an elevated wildfire risk, heightened wildfire activity and limited capacity to respond to new fire starts.

With improving conditions in some regions of B.C., and cooler wetter weather in the forecast we are now able to rescind these prohibitions. We continue to monitor wildfire risk and prohibitions may be implemented or rescinded as conditions change.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation shown by ORV users during this period. We know many riders take fire prevention seriously and recreate responsibly on established roads and trails. If you're returning to the backcountry, we ask for your support in reporting any new wildfires through our app or by calling *5555.

For those that knew him from back in the day…here’s a funeral announcement for Bob Kahl.

In Loving Memory
Robert Alvin Kahl
August 21, 1956 — June 13, 2026

Robert Alvin "Bob" Kahl passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, after a short courageous battle with cancer.

Bob will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his adventurous spirit, and his ability to bring laughter wherever he went. A gifted storyteller, he had a unique way of capturing the attention of everyone around him, often leaving his listeners on the edge of their seats in anticipation of what would come next.

Some of Bob's happiest moments were spent in the mountains, where he felt most at home. Early mornings hearing the distant bugle of elk brought a smile to his face and reflected his deep appreciation for nature and the beauty of the wilderness.

Above all, Bob was a devoted family man. He leaves behind his loving wife, Sylvia; his father, Carl; his siblings, Sherri, Darren, and Steve; his sons, Cody and Joel; and his cherished grandson, Rand.
Bob's warmth, humour, and love for family and the outdoors will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His stories, laughter, and adventurous spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of those he leaves behind.

Forever remembered, forever missed.

Parking area is mowed (I think we should do the same at Rampart to mitigate any potential fire hazard by accessing the site - thoughts on that one?)
I’m going to map out a new Pilot Station a bit further to the south to make things easier at OKA - let me know your thoughts.
Here is a pic of the runway (with parking area partially mowed in the background)

On a beautiful Saturday our club had a booth at the Spirit of the Rockies festival in Cranbrook. Jason Burke, Cory Muir and Richard Vienneau set up early for the 10 AM start. As soon as the sounds of the festival parade ended the market grounds filled with people. Our booth presented well with eye catching aircraft thanks to Jason and our location was ideal. Rundle Romanowicz joined us soon after to bring his drone expertise.

We had hundreds of people visit our booth throughout the day. The vast majority had no idea that there was a local RC club (we need to work on that). Countless people took a photo of the QR code to our website to learn even more about us. We discussed our sport with everyone and the energy on both sides of the table was amazing.

We are already seeing the benefits of the promotion with new members and contacts. The day was a complete and total success in all aspects. Thank you to our amazing members for making it happen!

Stop by our booth today at the Spirit of the Rockies festival in Cranbrook from 11 AM to 4 PM.

OKA is mowed … a word to the wise though -bring bug spray! I got hammered by the little bastards!
The North end is pretty devoid of grass currently but I spent some hours a few weeks ago with the leveller so it’s decently smooth compared to what it was.
I haven’t done anything with Pilot Stations or Pit Area yet, but will pick away at it.

A quick reminder to Club Members - RSVP to myself or Richard if you’re attending the FDFF at Rampart on Sunday so we know how much food to bring.

Cheers!
Rob
