Hey all Phil here ! a PSA for you I’m sharing this for those that might be unaware. This was posted on the lower mainland, figured it would be useful for when we get snow here.
I helped 5 vehicles last night, 2 of them AWD that were stuck. All of these cars were definitely on the newer end.
The first question I asked drivers before giving a push or a pull was;
“Is your traction control turned off?”
Almost all but 1 driver didn’t even know what I was talking about. The one guy had his in “Snow/Ice” mode.
Your Traction Control(TC) or Electronic Stability Control(ESC) is immobilizing you. Even the fancy “Snow” mode is garbage. You need to learn how to turn it off or disable it.
Just to be clear, every time you turn the vehicle off, Traction Control will be automatically turned back on. It definitely has its purpose, like driving the highway when it’s slippery, it will do its job then. But when you are trying to come home and get up the hills, turn that sucker OFF.
Every vehicle is a little different to turn it off or disable. I highly suggest checking YouTube to see how it works for your model.
Everyone that I helped yesterday was simply teaching them their Traction Control button and then directing them to hammer on the accelerator and navigate accordingly.
Now when you see someone on the skinny pedal slipping and sliding, but still moving forward slowly just give them the space, don’t be alarmed. The inertia from you accelerating expels the snow stuck in your tread and allows the tires to bite into the snow better and or cutting through it so you can grip the pavement.
***This is generally in regards to snow, sand, mud etc. I don’t disable it when it’s just typical rainy weather... unless you’re trying to take advantage of the glorious drift l**e the lower mainland is blessed with.
When in doubt, throttle it out 😂
Safe travels folks, happy holidays & happy new year to all of you from us at 5nine detailing! 🎄🎁 🥳🤙
