A very nice customer came complaining of a fuel smell after driving and poor acceleration. He was thinking fuel pump. After confirming nothing physically was leaking I hooked up my fuel pressure gauge and saw there was a drop in pressure once the key was turned off. Starting with the basics I removed the spark plugs. (Cylinder 3 was soaked) I used my scope and looked for a constant mist. Found it in cylinder 3 so unfortunately there is a leaking fuel injector. Much better than a fuel pump.

“Hi Daddy, can I help you?”

“ you certainly can, there is gloves behind you. You can help with these brakes if you would like.”

“Great”

When I have my young apprentice and younger helper asks if they can help. I am all smiles that day.

Good afternoon everyone, hope everybody has a great weekend. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that has supported this little shop so far this year. As always I love to meet new people and do my best to help them with any issues that come up, big or small. I greatly appreciate that and you very much. Next week I will be closed Thursday and Friday for a camping trip. If I miss any messages while I’m going I will get back to you when I return.

Thank you to everyone here.

This is for all the young apprentices and techs that are starting out. This is the type of repair you want. Replacing compressor on a Tacoma is pretty straightforward, but when an anchor bolt snaps that needs to come out for the compressor to come out it’s a great “think outside the box” teacher. A chance to try different tools and new tactics. It will make you sharper as a tech. They all can’t be easy going jobs. And the sense of accomplishment and the story you will have when you get it out is worth the little more time then expected time on the repair.

I didn’t expect to see this little fella in my tool box this morning. I had to give him points for the effort. He (or she) was in my top drawer or my bottom box. I easily got him out and sent him on his way.

This little one definitely earned a percentage for this repair. After watching and helping me replace the rear brakes on the passenger side, she wanted to take on the drivers side alone. She did a great job and did the repair all by herself. I torqued everything down and did the final inspection but everything looked pro. I’m so proud of her.

This morning I taught my young apprentice something new while change the oil on my Matrix. The engine is coming up to 500,000km. So with that much kilometers the internal components will start sticking or clogging. Such as piston rings, lifters and oil gallery’s. There is a fix for that. Add a small amount of transmission fluid to the new engine oil. If you have never done this I don’t recommend it because to much can make your engine fail. There is motor seaform that does the same thing. After letting her idle for a few minutes the different in the colour and thickness was great to see when I drained the oil out again. After refilling the engine with clean oil and changing the filter she is good to go. I’m going to take it for a little lap to help everything move around and with my scanner see how well that did for my engine.
