Of course a first test drive in a roadster wouldn’t be complete without rain!

While reworking my horrible but “100% good enough” (for now) aluminum model A radiator to better fit the car and install the earlier and larger water neck 59A outlets into the top of the rad, I had to relocate the modern relocated water fill from the rear of the tank back to the top center as per factory model A, one to clear the generator mounted fan and two as it looks correct! I couldn’t find an aluminum version of the model A style spigot, so I started figuring out how I could attach the original brass spigot to the aluminum riser I made so it comes out high enough through the grill shell so the cap goes on, knowing it probably wouldn’t work I tried soldering to no avail, although there is apparently modern types of solder that will stick dissimilar metals, BUT I wanted it done now! so next, being a seasoned aluminum Tig welder in my previous life, I tried AC Aluminum Tig welding the brass spigot to a scrap piece of aluminum! the first tack worked and didn’t crack! so did the second! So I broke the spigot free from the piece of scrap and started fitting it to the top tank of the rad, and welded it up, it wasn’t my usual pretty aluminum tig welding on the brass/Aluminum joint, but good enough to seal it and would definitely hold pressure if one wanted it to! It Worked out well,

We Finally got our 1931 model AV8 roadster driving last night! This is the first time it drove out of our shop! and the first time it’s been together as a running and driving car since for sure the early 80’s when the owner we bought it from brought it home in 4 small utility trailer loads of parts, the previous owner he bought the car from took this car apart probably in the 70s so it feels insanely good to have had the privilege to buy this car and put it completely back together again and see it running and driving after all this time,
