Sometimes the repair goes a little deeper than an oil change!

This 2019 Kia Sportage is in the shop for a complete engine replacement.

With the original engine removed and on the engine table, our technicians can transfer the necessary components over to the replacement long block before everything goes back into the vehicle.

Engine replacement is a big job, but it’s also a great example of the type of major mechanical repairs our team at Adair Auto Repair is equipped to handle right here in our shop.

From regular maintenance and diagnostics to major engine repairs and replacements, our goal is the same: diagnose it properly, repair it properly, and get our customers safely back on the road.

Not Just a Mustang, It’s a Shelby!

We had this beautiful 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 in the shop recently, and with that Grabber Blue paint and white stripes, it’s pretty hard not to stop and take a look!

The Shelby name has been part of Mustang history since the 1960s, when legendary racer and car builder Carroll Shelby teamed up with Ford to turn the Mustang into something much more serious. The original Shelby GT500 arrived in 1967, and today those early cars are some of the most collectible Mustangs ever built.

Fast-forward to 2010, and Ford was still carrying on that tradition. This GT500 came from the factory with a supercharged V8 making 540 horsepower, plenty of power even by today’s standards!

We definitely don’t mind having cars like this brighten up the shop for the day!

🔧 From a Misfire to Major Engine Repair. Back on the Road Before Harvest

What started as a misfire on this RAM HEMI turned into a little more than expected.

Our initial diagnostics uncovered a broken valve spring and bent pushrod. Once our technicians got further into the engine, they discovered additional damage, a worn camshaft and failed roller lifter that also needed attention.

This wasn’t a small repair, but our experienced technicians were able to diagnose the failure, perform the necessary internal engine repairs, and get this truck running properly and back to work.

And getting it back to work was especially important.

This RAM is part of a fleet that supports the agriculture industry, and with harvest season approaching, downtime isn’t just inconvenient. These trucks help support the people who keep our farms operating and ultimately help put food on all of our tables. 🌾

We’re proud that we could get this one repaired and back on the road before harvest season gets underway.

🔋 $33,000 Battery Replacement… or Repair What Actually Failed?

This Chevrolet Volt recently came to us after the customer was quoted approximately $33,000 at the dealership to replace the complete high-voltage drive battery due to a faulty battery module.

Rather than replacing the entire battery pack, we took a different approach.

After properly diagnosing the fault, our technician safely removed and disassembled the high-voltage battery pack, identified the failed module, and replaced the faulty section rather than the complete battery assembly.

The result?

🔧 Faulty battery module replaced
⚡ High-voltage battery repaired and reassembled
🚗 Vehicle back on the road
💰 Customer saved nearly $30,000 compared to replacing the complete battery pack

As vehicles become increasingly complex, sometimes the most expensive solution isn’t the only solution.

At Adair Auto Repair, we believe in diagnosing the problem first and determining whether a component can be properly repaired before recommending replacement of an expensive assembly.

This Chevrolet Volt is a perfect example of how the right equipment, technical knowledge, and willingness to dig a little deeper can make a very big difference for the customer.

A Rare Visitor at Adair Auto Repair!

Most people have never seen one of these.

This 1953 Sunbeam Alpine is a rare British sports car built by the Sunbeam Motor Car Company. The Alpine name came from the car’s success in Europe’s famous Alpine Rally, and fewer than 1,600 of these early models were ever produced.

Working on classic vehicles like this is always a privilege. They may be simple by today’s standards, but they require a unique understanding of vintage engineering and plenty of attention to detail.

We love seeing pieces of automotive history roll through our shop!

🏆 Proud to participate in the 2026 Auto Value Technician of the Year Competition!

We are proud to share that Adair Auto Repair owner, Seumas Leghorn, was recently selected as one of only three Canadian technicians invited to Detroit to participate in the 2026 Auto Value Technician of the Year event.

The Technician of the Year program was created to recognize and celebrate top performing automotive technicians from across Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Being selected as a finalist was an incredible honour and a meaningful recognition of Seumas’s more than 20 years of experience, ongoing commitment to training, technical knowledge, and dedication to the automotive repair industry.

The competition included hands on technical testing at the Shop Gurus Garage, along with a written ASE certification examination designed to challenge the knowledge and diagnostic abilities of some of the industry’s leading technicians.

Auto Value also provided an unforgettable Detroit experience, including:

🔧 Major Duramax Surgery🔧

Not every repair can be done with the hood open. This Chevrolet Duramax came into our shop requiring head gasket replacement, which is one of the most involved repairs on these trucks.

To properly access the engine, the entire cab was lifted off the frame, giving our technician the room needed to perform the repair correctly and safely. Once disassembled, we installed upgraded ARP head studs, a popular improvement for Duramax engines. Unlike the factory head bolts, ARP studs provide greater clamping force and help improve long-term durability, especially on trucks that tow heavy loads or have performance modifications.

Head gasket failures on diesel engines can be caused by overheating, age, increased cylinder pressures, or simply years of hard work. Common warning signs include:
✔️ Unexplained coolant loss
✔️ Cooling system overpressure
✔️ White exhaust smoke
✔️ Engine overheating
✔️ Coolant contamination

These photos offer a glimpse into the level of disassembly and precision involved in major diesel engine repairs. It's a reminder that behind every reliable work truck is a lot of skilled labor, attention to detail, and a technician committed to doing the job right.
