Last week, we had the pleasure of recognizing Shawn Flight, Service Manager in Red Deer and Chief Firefighter of the Penhold Fire Department, as our 2026 Q3 Safety Champion Award Winner!

Shawn has been part of the New West Truck Centres team since February 2015 and continues to lead by example, putting the safety and well-being of his team first every day.

Recently, Shawn developed and delivered a stretching initiative for his technicians to help promote employee wellness and reduce the risk of injuries. What started as a simple idea has made a meaningful impact and has now been incorporated at his location.

Shawn also plays an active role in coaching his team on safe work practices, ensuring inspections are completed on time, and following up on corrective actions. His commitment to accountability and continuous improvement is clear — his location achieved two consecutive months without missing a single inspection!

Safety is more than a requirement for Shawn — it’s something he actively champions every day.

TBT: Whoop-Up Days BBQ & Pig Roast in Lethbridge!

We had an amazing time celebrating Whoop-Up Days with our employees, customers, friends, and their families at our BBQ & Pig Roast. From the delicious food and cold drinks to the DJ and bouncing castle, there was something for everyone!

Most importantly, we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the day special and supported the fundraiser for the cancer treatment of Sean, one of our teammates.

Last month, Bill, one of our talented technicians at our Calgary location, celebrated an incredible 30 years with !

30 years ago, after spending two summers working in the Yukon and gaining valuable experience toward becoming a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Bill moved to Calgary and joined the Freightliner dealership, where he began his rewarding career with New West.

His daily motivation comes from his wife and dogs, and he’s always looking for new challenges at work. Outside of work, Bill enjoys working on cars, taking care of his acreage, and helping his wife in the garden.

When asked what he likes most about New West, Bill said it’s a great place to work, especially because there are people who genuinely go out of their way to make it even better. He also enjoys working with the Freightliner product.

And of course, 30 years comes with a few great stories! Bill remembers when the building had only one computer with access to the new “internet,” which the Warranty Clerk used to submit Detroit warranty claims. There were no computers in the shop, technicians used a time clock, and repair stories were handwritten on the back of the repair order. Service Advisors then had to decipher the handwritten notes and track down the punch times.

A lot has changed in 30 years, but one thing remains the same: great people are at the heart of New West Truck Centres.
