September is a transition month in BC. Kids are back in school, morning commutes are busier, daylight hours are getting shorter, and those crisp mornings are a reminder that winter driving season isnโ€™t far away.

Itโ€™s also one of the best times of year to give your vehicle a quick checkup.

๐Ÿš— September Driving: Did You Know?
Tire pressure drops as temperatures fall. As a general rule, tire pressure changes by about 1 PSI for every 5โ€“6ยฐC change in temperature.
Winter tires arenโ€™t just for snow. Their rubber compounds are designed to remain flexible in colder temperatures, generally becoming advantageous once temperatures are consistently around 7ยฐC or below.
On many designated BC highways, winter tires or chains are required beginning October 1.
Short, stop-and-go trips can be surprisingly demanding on your vehicle because the engine may not fully warm up and the battery may not have enough driving time to completely recharge.
๐Ÿ›ž Take a Look at Your Tires

After a summer of hot pavement, highway driving and road trips, September is a good time to inspect your tires.

Check for:

Low or uneven tread
Cracks, cuts or bulges
Uneven tire wear
Incorrect tire pressure
Vibration or pulling while driving

And donโ€™t wait for the first snowfall to start thinking about winter tires. September is a great time to check the condition of your existing winter tires or order replacements if you need them.

Getting ahead of the October rush can also make scheduling your tire changeover much easier.

๐ŸŽ’ Back to School Means More Stop-and-Go

School zones, buses, pedestrians and increased traffic mean September often brings more braking and stop-and-go driving.

That makes it a good time for a simple seasonal vehicle inspection.

Your September Car Care Checklist

โœ“ Brakes โ€“ Check pads, rotors and overall braking performance.

โœ“ Battery โ€“ A battery that struggled through summer heat may become more noticeable as temperatures fall.

โœ“ Wiper blades โ€“ Replace blades that streak, skip or chatter before BCโ€™s wetter weather arrives.

โœ“ Fluids โ€“ Check engine oil, coolant and windshield washer fluid.

โœ“ Lights โ€“ Make sure headlights, brake lights and turn signals are working properly as daylight hours decrease.

โœ“ Tires โ€“ Check pressure, tread depth and condition, and start planning your winter tire changeover.

๐Ÿ‚ Get Ahead of the Seasonal Rush

Winter may still seem a little way off, but September is the perfect month to prepare.

A quick inspection now can identify worn tires, weak batteries, tired brakes and other small problems before colder temperatures and wet or snowy roads put your vehicle to the test.

Book your September vehicle inspection or tire check today, and get your vehicle ready for the busy fall and winter driving seasons ahead.

๐Ÿ›‘ BRAKES 101: What Actually Happens When You Step on the Brake Pedal?

Your brakes make stopping a 4,000+ lb vehicle feel pretty simple, but thereโ€™s a lot happening between your foot and the road!

When you press the brake pedal, hydraulic pressure sends brake fluid through the system. That pressure activates the brake calipers, which squeeze the brake pads against the rotors. The resulting friction slows the wheels and brings your vehicle to a stop.

Simple idea. Very important hardware. ๐Ÿ”ง

So what do we check during a brake inspection?

๐Ÿ” Brake Pads โ€“ We check how much friction material remains and look for uneven or abnormal wear.

๐Ÿ” Brake Rotors โ€“ We inspect the rotors for excessive wear, scoring, rust, heat damage or warping.

๐Ÿ” Brake Calipers โ€“ We make sure the calipers are operating properly and aren't sticking, seized or leaking.

๐Ÿ” Brake Fluid โ€“ We check the fluid level and condition and look for signs of leaks in the hydraulic system.

๐Ÿ” Brake Lines & Hoses โ€“ We inspect for corrosion, cracking, deterioration and leaks.

๐Ÿ” Parking Brake โ€“ We check that the parking brake engages and releases properly.

โš ๏ธ Watch for the warning signs: squealing or grinding noises, vibration when braking, a soft or spongy pedal, pulling to one side, or needing more distance than usual to stop.

Your brakes don't usually go from "perfect" to "problem" overnight. Regular inspections can catch wear before it becomes a more expensive repair or a safety concern.

๐Ÿš— Hearing something strange when you brake? Don't turn up the radio and hope for the best. Have your brakes checked!
