☀️ Summer heat is still going strong, and everyone loves having their AC working properly! 😎❄️

Last week we had a larger AC repair in the shop, more than just a simple recharge, on this lovely classic Volvo C30 hatchback.

The vehicle’s condenser had finally started leaking, primarily due to years and years of small rock chips. The condenser sits right behind the front bumper, so over time it takes plenty of road debris and small impacts.

🔧 For this repair, we fully removed the front-end fascia to access the condenser, replaced the faulty unit, and flushed out the radiator while everything was apart. This helped save some additional time and costs for our client. We then reassembled everything, recharged the AC system, and had nice cold air blowing through the vents again! 🥶

Although summer is when most of us think about using our AC, there’s another important reason to keep your system working properly throughout the year.

🌧️ During the rainy winter months, your vehicle’s defrost mode uses the AC system to help dry the air quickly. This helps clear those foggy windows and improve visibility before those cold winter morning commutes.

🚗 This Week’s Favourite Repair: Audi A4 Quattro Timing Cover Repair 🔧

This week’s favourite repair was on this gorgeous 2010 Audi A4 Quattro.

We’ve been helping this client monitor a minor timing cover oil seepage that first started about 4-5 years ago. Over time, we’ve kept an eye on it during routine servicing, and it has now reached the point where the leak has become more noticeable, creating a mess every 6 months or 4,500 km when the vehicle comes in for its regular service.

These well-engineered 2.0L 4-cylinder timing chain engines produce smooth, responsive power while moving this full-size AWD sedan through daily commuting and those enjoyable highway cruises around BC.

🔧 This is no small repair.

Properly resealing the timing covers requires removal of the entire front end to provide the access needed to do the job correctly. It’s a detailed procedure that takes time and precision, and doing it properly means creating a long-lasting repair rather than simply treating the symptoms.

After years of monitoring this seepage, the time was right to address it properly.

This beautiful Audi is now ready for another 10-16 years of leak-free driving, enjoying the roads of Vancouver, travelling throughout BC, and continuing to deliver the smooth Quattro driving experience its owner loves. 😎

🚙 Another Suspension Refresh This Week!🔧

The shock replacement job this week was for a 2015 Nissan Xterra Pro-4X, owned by a wonderful new customer.

After 10 years and 130,000 km, it was finally time to replace the original shocks and struts. The owner had noticed the truck felt bouncy over bumps and that the brakes didn't seem to stop as confidently as they once did.

Many people don't realize that worn suspension has a direct impact on braking performance. As shocks and struts wear out, they allow more weight transfer during braking, reducing tire contact with the road and increasing stopping distances. Over the years, we've also found that worn suspension can contribute to premature brake wear, as the braking system has to work much harder than it should.

This Xterra came from the factory with Bilstein shocks as part of Nissan's Pro-4X off-road package, so we installed a fresh set of Bilsteins to restore the ride and handling exactly as it was designed.

Now this Xterra is driving like new again, with improved ride quality, confident braking, and it's ready for many more years of commuting, camping, and off-road adventures. 🌲🏕️

🔧 Engine Trouble? Here’s some knowledge for you.

The 1.5L and 1.6L turbo engines in the 2018 Ford Escape are known for a few common issues—namely, head gasket failures and timing belt slips. Both can lead to serious damage, including bent valves and cylinder head problems.

This week at The Garage, we brought one of these engines back to life. After the timing belt slipped 6 teeth, the cylinder head needed to be rebuilt—and 8 valves had to be replaced due to bending. It’s a big job, no doubt, but one that breathes new life into a great little engine.

With the refreshed head and proper timing restored, this Escape is now ready for many more years of reliable power and performance. And once again, we’ve helped a client avoid the massive cost of replacing their vehicle prematurely.
