🚗 Audi making a loud whistling noise? Experiencing a lack of power or noticing it’s consuming more oil than usual?
At The Garage, we’re very familiar with the wide variety of Audi engine packages from the past 20 years. One common wear item we see can cause some unusual symptoms, including whistling noises, reduced performance, increased oil consumption, and even oil or coolant loss with no obvious external leak.
🔧 The system in question is the PCV, or Positive Crankcase Ventilation system. On modern Audi engines, these have developed into more complex PCV breather systems that include oil separator components.
This week we dove into a fun and complex repair, replacing the oil separator and PCV breather components on Audi’s well-known 3.0L supercharged V6 engine. This engine was used across a wide range of Audi models during its roughly 10-year run and is known for delivering smooth, responsive power and plenty of performance. 😎
Getting to these components is a job in itself. The repair involves removing the supercharger and intake manifold assembly, along with several fuel system, PCV, and cooling system components to gain proper access.
