Episode 2 with Dr. Bobby Yanagawa is up.

A heart surgeon and a car salesman don't have a lot in common on paper. But this conversation, we found the thing that actually does connect us, we both came to Canada as outsiders, and we both had to build our path.

We get into hard work, resilience, and staying optimistic even when things aren't easy.
Different careers, same story in a lot of ways. Give this one a watch!

“I’m not sure this is right for us.”
That moment can make or break a client relationship.

The instinct in sales is often to defend, persuade, or push harder. But transformational selling takes a different approach.

Instead of trying to overcome the objection, get curious.

Ask:
• What’s driving that concern?
• What would need to change?
• What matters most to you?

Pressure creates resistance. Curiosity creates conversation. When you understand the real concern, you can create the right solution.

From Transactional → Transformational.
Share this with a colleague in sales, leadership, or client development.

I don't want any offers! That's something I tell my team all the time, and I mean it.

The word "offer" invites a negotiation before you've even started. So I don't say it. I bring a proposal, a real solution, built around the conversation we already had. Option A, B, or C, and I tell them straight up which one I recommend.

It sounds like a small thing. It's not. It changes the whole tone of the conversation.

I want to deliver 30 cars this month. I say that to my team often, but the number by itself doesn't mean much.

What actually gets you there is the stuff behind the number, the vision, and the strategy.

Vision means asking why. Why does this goal matter, how will it change things for you? Strategy means figuring out how, the steps, the resources, the timeline.

I've led teams since I was 23, and this is the one thing I try to drill into every person I work with. A goal without a vision behind it is just a wish.

Here's something I remind my team of often, trust isn't earned over the whole conversation. It's decided in the first few seconds, before a single word is exchanged.

People read your energy before they hear your pitch.

I've led teams since I was 23, and this is one of the first things I try to teach anyone new, how you show up matters more than what you say.

Something I've learned leading teams since I was 23, the best conversations, whether with a customer or your own staff, were never really about business.

They were about actually being interested in the person in front of you.

I still check in on my guys the same way I check in on a customer, not because it's part of the job, but because I genuinely want to know how they're doing.

That's the real skill. Not the pitch. The conversation.

Sales should be more than a transaction. It should be the beginning of a relationship that creates lasting value for both the client and the organization.

The journey from transactional to transformational starts with understanding where the client is today and identifying what they actually need, not simply what you want to sell.

A stronger client journey focuses on:

1. Understand — Listen to the client's challenges, goals, and priorities.
2. Diagnose — Identify the real problem before presenting a solution.
3. Align — Connect the solution directly to the client's objectives.
4. Deliver — Create a consistent experience and follow through on your commitments.

5. Develop — Continue adding value beyond the initial transaction.
6. Transform — Become a trusted partner that helps the client achieve meaningful results

Sometimes it's listening better, asking better questions, creating a better process, and staying invested in the client's success. When you shift the focus from "What can I sell?" to "How can I create value?", the sales relationship changes.

That is where transactional selling becomes transformational leadership.
Follow for more practical sales, leadership, and client-growth frameworks.

Somebody asked me this question the other day, if you could only get better at one thing, what would it be?

My answer isn't flashy. It's reading.

The more you read, the better you get at talking to people. And in this business, how well you talk to people is everything.

I've told my boys this since they were young. It's not glamorous, but it works. Put the time in, and it shows.

There's a moment on every test drive that most salespeople talk right past.

It's not the questions after. It's what happens in the car, the little things people don't even realize they're doing.

I've been doing this a long time, and that moment still tells me more than anything they say afterward. You just gotta pay attention.
