Bmw X1 , the car didn’t start sadly so it was tow’ed to my place and after few diagnostics , it was the “starter”. Changing the starter in this bmw 4 cylinder turbo engine involved removing the intake manifold and the ecu. Many many wires and plugs were also in the way, not the most fun thing to work in cold weather either :P

Here is a car part called the Idle Pulley or idler pulley, it keeps your accessories belt in the correct turns transmission, tension and smoothness. This Subaru Outback’s idler pulley was so bad it stopped spinning. We can see the balls of bearing being stuck / broken inside. When this happens, the engine will continue spinning the serpentine belt and if something didn’t spin, the belt will just slip out. You will start losing some functions like the A/C , power steering and it’ll also stop charging the car’s battery. Luckily, my friend was able to make it home and wait for the parts to arrive! We took the chance and also changed the belt tensioner (another belt pulley) and a brand new belt.

Another brake job day, I enjoy seeing cars going from braking “noisy” and “with hesitation” into smoothness. It’s the satisfaction to see a car running better that keeps me motivated into doing this kind of labour work. I am by no means a true certified mechanic but hey, I have passion and knowledge :)

I wanted to refresh up a bit the seats In this Nissan Skyline GTR 1990 but I didn’t want to spend too much so I purchased some seats that came in shipped and tax-in canada for less than 700$. To hold the seats on the floor, I used the brackets from the Nissan 240sx (it was 100$ versus 500$) and modified them to fit, they are somewhat similar ! I am very satisfied of the results for the price I paid :)
