Good morning, everyone,

We were in yesterday and released the Canyon Denali after its indoor ceramic coating cure time. We also got the Dale Earnhardt Monte Carlo SS up on the hoist, masked off, and ready to continue paint correction.

Unfortunately, we did have to close the shop early yesterday afternoon to be with family. My dad is currently in hospice care in Kingston and is surrounded by immediate family at this time.

We are back in the shop this morning and will be working on the Monte Carlo throughout the day. Sunday evening, we also have a BMW arriving to start next week.

If we don’t get back to calls, messages, or emails as quickly as usual, we ask for your understanding. We are balancing time between the shop, family, close friends, and many kilometres on the road right now.

We sincerely appreciate your patience, support, and understanding during this difficult time.

Thank you,

Scott

Not all “paint correction” is created equal… 😬

This 2026 Canyon Denali came to us after another attempt at correction left behind heavy buffer trails, holograms, unmasked trim damage and deeper scratches that should have never been left looking this way on a brand new truck.

The worst part? It ended up costing MORE in the end.

Do it right the first time… or pay more later.

Real paint correction takes proper lighting, proper inspection, proper prep, proper masking, proper pad & compound combinations and most importantly… patience.

Anyone can make black paint look good from 10 feet away in poor lighting.
Professional correction should also look right under high output inspection lights 🔥

After countless hours of correction and refinement, this Canyon Denali is now finally looking the way it should have from day one 😎

A few before shots at the end 😳 ⬇️

Wonderful Wednesday! 😎

The 2026 Canyon Denali has officially finished its massive paint correction and is now ready for its GlossTech “Gloss Sauce” ceramic coating this evening 🔥

After countless hours of correction, wet sanding, careful pad selection, multiple stages and proper inspection lighting… the gloss, depth and clarity are finally better than it should have been from day one.

A few photos below before the ceramic coating goes on ⬇️

Also today, we had our water softener system tested. Even though our water is already filtered and softened before it reaches our building from next door, we still soften it again inside the shop. Happy to report… 💯 soft water — 0 grains hardness 😎

People would be surprised how much proper water quality matters during washing, decontamination and final prep work.

And by coincidence today… the Toyota RAV4 that once had one of the worst ceramic coating coating jobs and baked-on roof damage we have ever corrected here, was back in for its annual inspection, maintenance and detail.

A year later and still looking fantastic 👌

A busy day at Scott’s Custom Auto Spa & Ceramic Coatings!

8:30 PM and still rolling along here at Scott’s Custom Auto Spa & Ceramic Coatings 🔥

A couple late-night second round paint correction shots on this 2026 Canyon Denali 👀

And remember…

REAL professional paint correction work is shown under REAL professional paint inspection lighting 😉

Not parking lot lights…
Not cloudy day photos…
Not 10-foot-away glamour shots 😂

Inspection lighting tells the truth.

The deeper we get into this Denali, the more obvious it becomes just how much previous buffer damage, etching and haze had to be corrected properly.

Slowly but surely the gloss, depth and clarity are finally starting to come back to life 🔥

Now… back at it

Happy Tuesday everyone! 😊

Still hard at work on paint correction on this 2026 GMC Canyon Denali 🔥

Tonight’s goal is to stay until the second round of paint correction is fully completed. Slow and steady wins the race on jobs like this… especially after the condition this paint arrived in.

The plan from here:
✔️ Final finishing round tomorrow
✔️ GlossTech ceramic coating installation tomorrow evening
✔️ Back onto the Dale Earnhardt Monte Carlo SS Thursday & Friday
✔️ Next BMW arriving in the shop Sunday 😎

Long days, lots of polishing and plenty of coffee lately 😂

A few more photos for now… and then it’s back at it.

Back in the saddle again this beautiful Monday 🍻😎

Yesterday we managed to get everything masked off on this 2026 GMC Canyon Denali that simply should NOT be hit with a buffer.

And yes… that takes time 😂

Today alone we spent roughly 7 hours working the hood.

Some wet sanding was required due to the heavy “spider 💩” style etching marks that actually resemble tree sap damage more than anything else. This was then followed up with rotary correction using a non-diminishing cutting compound to begin properly leveling the damage.

As for the exact pad and polish combinations… we’ll keep some of those secrets to ourselves 😊

What many people don’t realize is:
Sometimes the SAME make, SAME model and SAME paint code can react completely differently depending on where the vehicle was manufactured.

Canada 🇨🇦
USA 🇺🇸
Mexico 🇲🇽
Korea 🇰🇷

What worked perfectly on the last vehicle may not work nearly as well on the next one.

Paint correction is not a “one combo fixes all” process.

And honestly… you’d probably be hard pressed to find many professional correction shops willing to admit they LOVE working on GM black paint 😂
Subaru and Tesla paint often make that list too…

As Henry Ford once said:
“You can have any colour you want… as long as it’s black.” 😊

Also in today was a Kia Soul for a hefty salt removal and interior detailing after another Ontario winter.

Now… back onto the roof of this Canyon Denali where we are dealing with the same etching issues found on the hood 🔥

Happy Rainy Sunday everyone 🌧️

The long tail (story) of this 2026 GMC Canyon Denali…

Back on October 31st we received a call from the owner shortly after he picked up his brand new truck. Being retired from GM — and from the paint shop of all places — he immediately noticed some major concerns with the paint, especially etching on the hood and roof.

The client brought the vehicle in for us to inspect and quote for correction work. After a full assessment, we provided what we felt was a fair estimate to properly correct the issues.

Apparently however, the dealership thought our pricing was “out there” and informed the client… “they had a guy” 🥱

A month or so later the truck was dropped off at “The Guy’s” shop to be buffed.

A few hours later… 😂 the truck was picked up the very same day — in the rain of course — and the owner was told everything was fixed up.

The next morning, once the sun came out, the owner was absolutely horrified.

Buffer trails everywhere.
Plastic trim not masked off.
Rubber seals not masked off.
Compound splatter throughout the vehicle.

And yes… this particular shop is apparently certified to install a major ceramic coating brand. A brand that at one time truly helped set the standard in Canada for professional correction and coating installations.

So we received another call…

“My paint is now worse than before.”

Back out came the truck (again roughly 35 minutes away) for another inspection and estimate. The correction process had now become more involved… and unfortunately the pricing had increased.

Then came vacations… Dealership & manufacturer discussions… and months passing by.

Three months later we received another call:
“OK… they’re finally going to fix this. But they need three quotes.”

One estimate came in slightly lower than ours.
Another came in higher than our January estimate.

Then back to us for a THIRD inspection and estimate.

The client mentioned paint thickness readings being “all over the map” — some supposedly below 1 mil.

So we pulled out our paint thickness gauge, zeroed and calibrated it directly in front of the client before taking readings.

Some areas measured around 3+ mil.
Others around 6 mil.

So yes — there was workable paint there… but also areas requiring extreme caution around edges and valleys.

And yes… by now the estimate had gone up again.

At that point honestly, I figured we’d never see the truck again 😂

A few more weeks passed…
Then came another call.

The client had been given the choice of repair facility and decided to move forward with us.

Fast forward to today… and this truck is finally going to get corrected properly. Best we can do with what we now have to work with…

Have a look through the 30+ photos below and be sure to read the comments attached to them ⬇️

This is exactly why:
✔️ Professional inspection lighting matters
✔️ Paint thickness gauges must be properly calibrated
✔️ Gloss meters must be zeroed BEFORE readings are taken
✔️ Proper masking procedures matter
✔️ Professional correction work is far more than “making paint shiny”

And yes… we’ve seen the TikTok detailers poking fun at the amount of masking tape we use 😂

Tape costs roughly $8 a roll…
Replacing damaged trim and rubber mouldings? Hundreds of dollars.

Long story short…
Seven months later this truck is now an absolute mess correction-wise, and unfortunately some deeper scratches and chips will remain.

Not everything can always be fully reversed once improper correction work has already been performed.

Yes, you may absolutely share this post.

Why are we suddenly seeing so many ceramic coatings failing prematurely?

This past week alone we had THREE vehicles in the shop with serious ceramic coating performance issues, contamination problems, or complete coating failure concerns.

One was the Porsche we previously posted about (not coated locally) that unfortunately had an extremely poor self levelling clear coat & ceramic coating installation. The coating failure and installation defects were severe enough that the vehicle will ultimately require repainting in order to properly repair the damage.

The other two vehicles were local vehicles we chose not to publicly post in order to avoid unnecessary drama. Both suffered from improper coating leveling, severe high spots, and ceramic coating residue left behind in factory badging and trim areas. In order to properly repair these vehicles, badging will need to be removed, the affected areas corrected and polished, and the emblems reinstalled or replaced.

The reality is this:
Ontario road salt and harsh winters do NOT normally destroy a properly installed professional-grade ceramic coating.

In our experience, the biggest causes of premature ceramic coating failure are usually:
✔ Poor preparation before installation
✔ Low-grade coating products
✔ Improper maintenance
✔ Contamination buildup
✔ Rushed installations

One of the biggest misconceptions we continue to see is people believing a coating is “gone” simply because water beading slows down. In many cases, heavily contaminated coatings can often be restored through proper decontamination and maintenance procedures.

We also continue to see confusion between true professional ceramic coatings and temporary “spray ceramic” products marketed with unrealistic durability claims.

This is exactly why we wrote our newest blog:
“Why Are We Seeing More Ceramic Coating Failures in Ontario?”

The article breaks down:
• What actually causes ceramic coating failure
• Why proper preparation matters so much
• The difference between contaminated vs failed coatings
• Why indoor curing still matters
• Why maintenance is critical in Ontario’s climate

The next messed up paint correction will be in over the weekend to be repaired and ceramic coated. The battle to have it fixed has been going on since October last year on a brand new truck. Stay tuned! Finally getting done and it is being paid for as well…

Since 2017, Scott’s Custom Auto Spa & Ceramic Coatings has focused on a correction-first approach, professional-grade ceramic coating systems, controlled installation procedures, and realistic long-term expectations for our clients.

Fantastic Friday everyone! 🍻

To wrap up the week we had this Chevy Equinox in for a full detailing after surviving a winter of road salt along with construction work near the home, Safe to say… she was definitely ready for a deep clean 😎

Meanwhile, the interior on the Dale Earnhardt Intimidator Monte Carlo is now completed 🏁🔥

Today was also spent dialing in the paint correction process and figuring out the best pad and compound combinations for the different paint conditions throughout the vehicle.

This car has:
✔️ Some original factory paint
✔️ Some older repaint work from a previous owner
✔️ Some newer repaint work completed by the current owner

So as many professional detailers know… sometimes the polishing process and pad/compound combinations need to change panel by panel depending on the paint you’re working on.

And no… it’s not often we break out the big double-sided wool pad anymore 😂

But with some heavier etching, hard water spotting and tree sap damage, especially on the hood, the heavier correction setup was definitely the right choice for this stage of the process. Rotary 1st 🔨 Down!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone 😎🍻

Another busy day here at Scott’s Custom Auto Spa & Ceramic Coatings.

Today we had another previous ceramic coating client back in, now close to FOUR years after we originally coated this Jeep Grand Cherokee 🔥

And once again… another repeat client returning home to Scott’s 😎

The Jeep came in for its annual ceramic coating inspection, maintenance visit and a full detailing. Properly maintained professional ceramic coatings should continue performing years later when the preparation, installation and maintenance are done correctly.

We also spent some time today working on the 2002 Dale Earnhardt Intimidator Monte Carlo SS ⬇️

Today was finally the day we opened up the interior and started tackling the detailing work before moving onto paint correction.

Apparently there had once been a mouse in the house here 😂🐭

The spare tire well had previously filled with water at some point and was an absolute rust-coloured mess. As usual… I completely forgot the before pictures 😂

We did however get that cleaned up along with:
✔️ Engine bay detailing
✔️ Interior detailing currently underway
✔️ More prep work before paint correction begins

Meanwhile the Honda CR-V Hybrid should be heading home shortly 🔥

And with two more vehicles out the door to bring in later this evening…
