That’s Not How Timing Chains Are Supposed to Look!

If your timing chain has this much slop, you’re living on borrowed time. In the clip, you can clearly see severe slack in the chain, allowing it to lift right off the sprockets by hand.

Excessive slack causes the chain to jump teeth on the sprockets. If this happens on an interference engine, valves meet pistons—turning a standard timing job into a full engine rebuild.

Warning Signs to Watch For:

- Metallic rattling or slapping noise on cold startups
- Check Engine light for timing camshaft/crankshaft position codes (e.g., P0011, P0016)
- Rough idling or misfires

Don’t ignore the rattle before the chain decides to skip!
