Why is it important to run a fuel additive in a small engine?

Small engines are typically have a carburetor. These small carburetors have tiny passageways called jets. Some of these jets are so small that even a small grain of sand will not pass through, and will plug the jet. Its unlikely that you will get sand in your carburetor, but todays pump gasoline degrades very quickly. After only 30 days, your fuel is considered "old gas" Not only does old gas reduce performance, the older it gets it actually starts to get thick and gummy. This gummy build up plugs jets and causes needles to become stuck. Most times your engine will not even start. In addition todays fuels have higher ethanol concentration. Ethanol attracts moisture which causes poor performance and can cause corrosion to the inside of your carburetor - often requiring replacement.

Small engines often sit for extended periods of time, especially seasonal equipment such a boats and lawn mowers. Towards the end of the season, you never know when the last time you will use that piece of equipment is. Using a premium fuel additive gives you the convenience of an engine that is going to start and run good when you need it. It can also save you money on repair costs in the spring when you need your equipment and it needs carburetor repairs.
