IMPORTANT UPDATE – PRECAUTIONARY ADVICE
August 9, 2022

With the forecasted southerly winds for Thursday, August 11, 2022, Bishop’s Falls and Grand Falls-Windsor could see significant smoky conditions due to the Central forest fires.

As a precautionary measure, if you are vulnerable to poor air quality and smoke, we recommend that you do one of the following:

(A) Take a bus departing for the evacuation shelter in Deer Lake (Hodder Memorial Centre) at either of the following times on Wednesday, August 10, 2022:

11:00 am
5:00 pm

The muster point is located at the Salvation Army Church in Bishop’s Falls. Please be advised that residents cannot park their vehicles in this area.

If you require transportation to the muster point, please contact the Town Office at 709-258 6581 between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm.

(B) Use your vehicle to travel to the evacuation shelter in Deer Lake (Hodder Memorial Centre) on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

Residents traveling to the evacuation shelter must pack responsibly and bring essential items such as cash, prescription medications, eyeglasses, several changes of clothing, and personal items.

If you are not traveling to Deer Lake on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, we recommend that you be ready for an evacuation on an hour’s notice. Ensure you have your “go bag” prepared that includes the items noted above.
