Well... after being worn down by approximately 47,000 requests, we've finally caved.

🚨 D&S SMALL ENGINES UPDATE TIME 🚨
(aka “we finally admit there’s only 24 hours in a day and 4 techs to do all the work”) 😂

A few little changes around the shop as we continue drowning ourselves in mowers, ATVs, side by sides, tractors, trailers, generators and basically anything with an engine and bad intentions. 😅

👉 FIRST OFF…
At this time we are NOT renting out equipment.

Why?
Because we’re currently too busy maintaining YOUR equipment to properly maintain rental equipment. 😭

And while we fully support the War Amps… we figured creating MORE war amps by rushing rental maintenance probably isn’t the ideal fundraising strategy. 😂💀

So for now, rentals are parked until life calms down a little… which judging by the yard may be sometime around 2047. 👍

👉 PARTS POLICY UPDATE:

• Any parts order OVER $150 now requires a deposit equal to the cost of the parts up front.
• Any SPECIAL ORDER parts require payment in full before ordering.

And before anyone panics… no, this isn’t us being mean. 😂

Unfortunately we’ve had WAY too many situations where:
“Yep order it!”
part arrives
“Actually I sold it / scrapped it / traded it / my cousin fixed it / my dog ate the carburetor.” 😭

Meanwhile we’re left holding very expensive paperweights that fit exactly ONE machine built during a full moon in 2007. 😂

So this just helps keep things fair and keeps us from building the Ottawa Valley’s largest museum of abandoned special order parts. 👍

👉 BIG NEW UPDATE 👀

We are now officially a FortNine preferred installer & dealer! 🔥

That means if you see something on FortNine’s website… there’s a VERY good chance we can order it in for you directly. Parts, accessories, riding gear, ATV goodies, motorcycle stuff, helmets, upgrades, attachments… all the dangerous things your wallet was hoping you wouldn’t discover. 😂

👉 TURN AROUND TIMES:

Right now average turnaround is holding around roughly 2–3 weeks by the time we:
✔ get triage done
✔ diagnose issues
✔ order parts
✔ complete repairs

BUT… before everyone starts sweating… MANY jobs are WAY quicker than that, especially:
✅ basic services
✅ tune ups
✅ tire work
✅ blade sharpening
✅ smaller repairs

Some stuff flies through fast… some stuff fights us like it owes us money. 😅

👉 PICK UP & DELIVERY NOTICE:

Pickup and delivery slots are currently EXTREMELY LIMITED.

It has become almost impossible for us to get out of the shop lately because the workload inside the building has honestly been insane. Which is a GREAT problem to have and we appreciate every single one of you for keeping us this busy. ❤️

The phones are STILL extremely busy. Like… “hang up one call while another one is already ringing” busy. 😅

We ARE working hard to get back to everyone as quickly as possible, so if we miss you or can’t answer right away please know we’re not ignoring you… we’re probably:

✔ chasing parts
✔ loading machines
✔ or arguing with a carburetor that’s fighting for its life 😂

🚨 D&S NEWS 🚨

Well guys… it finally happened 😂

You officially broke us.

The phones have been ringing nonstop, messages flying in from every direction, voicemails stacking up, customers rolling in, pickups, deliveries, estimates, parts orders… meanwhile the mechanics are in the back trying to remember what silence even sounds like 🔧📞🔥

So after a LOT of discussion…

WE HIRED A NEW ADMIN PERSON 🎉😂

Starting next week there will officially be another brave soul joining the chaos here at D&S Small Engines & Powersports Ltd.

This means calls and messages will slowly start being routed a little differently instead of ringing directly into the middle of the shop while someone’s elbow deep in a lawn tractor or ATV 😂

The goal?

Keep the mechanics fixing machines.
Keep customers updated better.
Keep things organized.
And start chiseling away at the approximately 5 pages of hopeful bookings we currently have scribbled down all over the place 🤣📋

Now listen…

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Please be gentle with the new hire 😭😂

They have absolutely no idea what they’re walking into.

There’s a very real chance their first week involves:
📞 47 phone calls all at once every day
🐶 Lucy supervising aggressively
🔧 someone yelling for parts numbers
☕ cold coffee
🚜 customers arriving at the exact same time somehow
and at least one mechanic wandering around confused holding a carburetor... Dean... But we won't name any names 🤫

In all seriousness though… this is a HUGE step for us.

A few years ago this whole thing was just an idea and now we’re growing the team because of the insane support from the Ottawa Valley.

That blows our minds every single day.

Holy crap Ottawa Valley… 😳

You guys absolutely blew our doors off this long weekend with calls, emails, voicemails, messages, bookings… all of it.

Please hang tight with us while we work through everyone we WILL get back to you. We’re honestly floored by the sheer volume this year. Like… genuinely flabbergasted.

Our flabbers have officially been gasted. 😂

Seriously though, thank you. The support for D&S this season has been unbelievable already and we’re beyond grateful for every single one of you.

At this point we may actually need to start looking for:
🔧 Another admin/helper
🚚 Possibly someone to drive the truck for pickups & deliveries a few days a week

This May long weekend the shop is CLOSED 🍁

The tools are down, the coffee’s getting stronger, the BBQ’s getting fired up, and there’s a very good chance somebody’s dad is about to “just rest his eyes” in a lawn chair for 3 hours 😴😂

We’re taking a couple days to spend time with family, friends, and the little feral shop assistants we created.

Hope everybody has a safe, relaxing long weekend full of good food, cold drinks, campfires, and absolutely no emergency “can ya just squeeze me in quick?” messages 🤣

We’ll be back at it Tuesday, May 19th.

That ATV that “just needs one little thing” but somehow turned into a full-blown wallet assault? 😅
You may now be able to get the work done NOW and pay later 💪
✔️ Repairs
✔️ Parts
✔️ Bigger jobs
✔️ Less stress
Now before somebody asks if we personally approve loans with a crystal ball and a handshake… nope 😂
Financing is handled securely through our invoicing/payment provider — not directly through us — and all approvals are subject to their credit approval process.
So if your credit history looks like a demolition derby, don’t yell at the mechanics 😆
Also important: 💥 Financing costs/fees/interest (if applicable) are separate from your repair bill.
💥 Approval amounts and terms vary by customer.
💥 Please borrow responsibly — we fix machines, not life choices 😂
But for a lot of people, this can make those bigger repairs WAY easier to manage without parking your machine for months.

HEY GUYS!… we gotta talk for a minute 👊
Over the last little while, D&S Small Engines has grown exponentially and honestly, it’s because of you guys.
Last year alone, we worked on over 700 pieces of equipment.
Everything from lawn tractors and chainsaws to ATVs, snowblowers, generators, trailers, skid steers, farm tractors and more
And truthfully… the old “drop in anytime” system is starting to work against the people we’re trying to help.
Machines pile up unexpectedly, phones get backed up, customers arrive while we’re already deep into another repair, parts need to be organized on the fly, and before long it starts feeling like someone’s getting left behind and we HATE that.
So moving forward, D&S Small Engines will be moving primarily to an appointment-based system.
Not because we want to do less work…
Actually the complete opposite.
We genuinely believe this will help us:
✔ Keep repairs moving smoother and faster
✔ Reduce bottlenecks and unnecessary delays
✔ Be more prepared for your specific machine before it arrives
✔ Communicate better with customers
✔ Stay organized as the shop continues growing
✔ And ultimately take on more work while maintaining the quality and service standards people expect from us
For any customers already on regular service schedules including many of our professional customers like tree services, landscapers, grass cutting companies, and other contractors, don’t worry, this won’t affect your existing arrangements 👊
That said! if you have something urgent or an emergency situation, please let us know. We’ll always do our best to see what we can do to get you in as quickly as possible.
And don’t worry… this doesn’t mean we suddenly don’t want to see people around the shop anymore 😅
We still love when customers stop in for a chat, a coffee, to show us a project, or just shoot the breeze for a few minutes. That community atmosphere around the shop is a huge part of what makes D&S what it is.
At the end of the day, you guys are still going to get the same D&S you always have we’re just building a more organized system that helps us keep up with the growth, move quicker, and continue looking after everyone the best we can.
This shop started small… and seeing how much support this community has given us honestly blows our minds.

And honestly… what makes this even better?
This year the event is helping support Valley Animal Rescue ❤️🐾
Anybody who knows us knows we’re huge animal people around here. Between shop dogs, barn cats, rescue stories, and customers stopping in with their four-legged copilots every day… this one hits close to home for us.
