INTERNATIONAL HV607 BODY CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC CASE STUDY
Vehicle:
2021 International HV607
Engine: Cummins X15
Customer Complaint:
• Intermittent No Crank condition
• Marker lights randomly inoperative
• HVAC blower cutting out intermittently
• Wipers stopping during operation
• Multiple warning lamps active
Active DTCs:
• U0155 – Lost Communication With Instrument Panel Cluster
• U0140 – Lost Communication With Body Control Module
• SID 231 FMI 9 – Abnormal update rate from body controller
• SPN 639 FMI 2 – J1939 Communication Error
Diagnostic Process Using TEXA IDC6:
Using the TEXA IDC6 Heavy Truck software with the Navigator TXT Multihub 2, a complete vehicle scan identified intermittent BCM communication failures and unstable module voltage supply during loaded conditions.
Technician Procedures:
• Performed full system scan
• Monitored BCM live data during activation tests
• Performed loaded voltage drop testing on BCM power and grounds
• Used TEXA interactive wiring diagrams to isolate shared chassis ground circuit
• Verified excessive resistance at left-hand cab chassis ground connection
Root Cause:
Corroded chassis ground eyelet causing intermittent voltage instability and communication loss across body control circuits.
Repair:
• Cleaned and repaired chassis ground connection
• Replaced damaged eyelet terminal
• Performed loaded voltage drop verification
• Cleared all communication faults
• Confirmed stable BCM operation and proper multiplex communication
Result:
Vehicle returned to service with all body electrical systems operating normally and no returning communication faults.
Modern multiplexed heavy truck systems require OE-level diagnostics, live data analysis, and proper voltage drop testing to accurately isolate intermittent electrical failures.
