We've been working on a secret project all summer and it's time to unveil where all of those hours went!

Around once per year, we purchase and fix up a vehicle before donating it to a deserving person in need. This beautiful 2009 Honda Accord is the latest one of those vehicles. This project served partly as a hands-on experience builder for our Apprentice Technician Logan, but almost every member of the team has been involved at some point.

As always, we started with one of our detailed My Garage full inspections. Then we repaired every issue noted on that inspection, plus caught up all of the scheduled maintenance. The Accord is in remarkable mechanical shape with a new timing belt, all new fluids and filters, a new windshield, and a whole lot more. With a leather interior, two sets of wheels/tires, and a remote starter, this will be the nicest vehicle we've ever given away.

Here's where YOU come in!
If you know someone who works hard, shows up for their family or community, and has faced real hardship through no fault of their own, we'd love for you to nominate them for this gift. Send an email to [email protected] and tell us their story โ€” what they've overcome, how they give back, and why this would change their life.

Sharing this post to help us reach a deserving winner is always appreciated. ๐Ÿ™‚

"Was that AI?"
This was the question from a client for our Client Advocate team member Brianna today, after she took a phone call transfered through from our manager Scott. Nope, that's just Scott's silky smooth, radio-ready voice! ๐Ÿ˜Š

But that brings up an important point...

For as long as we are in business, no matter how much further we continue to grow, we promise that you will always receive two things from us:
๐Ÿ™‹ A real human being answering your calls, emails and text messages โ€” every single time.
๐Ÿงป Paper towel in our restroom.

You know our business for leading the industry when it comes to technology, but technology has its place. Some things will always be better done the old-fashioned way.

Here comes My Garage with another first for EV owners!

The intermediate steering shaft universal joint on Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles is a known failure point. When it goes, it either seizes and creates a stiff spot as you turn the wheel, or wears loose, creating a sloppy spot in the middle of the steering wheel travel. Shops in Ontario and Quebec have been dealing with this for years, and now, with all the road salt used in Alberta today, we're seeing the same failures here.

Until now, the only fix โ€” from Tesla or anyone else โ€” has been replacing the entire steering column: a $1,400 repair.

The good news: we've developed a replacement universal joint, and starting today, we can repair your existing steering column instead of replacing it. The repair costs less than half of a full column replacement. It's backed by our standard 3-year/100,000 km parts and labour warranty โ€” the best in Alberta.

Neat stuff! Today we welcomed a very old, but very clean Toyota Cressida to the shop. One of the tasks on our to-do list was diagnosing a sensor warning light that has been illuminated for the past month.

This is actually a maintenance reminder that comes on every 30,000 miles (48,000 km), at which point Toyota wants the oxygen sensor replaced. The light is controlled by a ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ญ ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ underneath the dash. Once the oxygen sensor has been replaced, the timer is manually reset/pushed back with a small screwdriver and the light goes out.

When you pay top wages, maintain a clean, organized facility and foster a positive company culture, you attract the best Technicians โ€” and we love how much these men and women care. This vehicle is only with us for an inspection today, but upon noticing how dirty the frunk was, Cam decided that it wasn't leaving our shop looking like that. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Sister companies Hyundai and Kia have adopted some bold design language over the last decade, and that continues with the new 2027 Hyundai Tucson SUV. What do you think of these teaser images released this week?

Hyundai is one of the 8 brands for which we provide above dealership-level capability and service. Read more about that here:

Driving the Cowboy Trail in southern Alberta this weekend, we stopped to take in the beauty of the sprawling Waldron Ranch. Did you know that as a My Garage client, you have a special connection to this place?

Not just a working ranch, this is one of Alberta's largest and most important conservation projects - and that's where you come in. You may already know that we donate $1 from every hour of Technician time billed through our shop to the Nature Conservancy of Canada / Conservation de la nature Canada (NCC). Working together with the provincial government and local landowners, the NCC has ensured that this place will remain undeveloped forever.

With the addition of the King Ranch (yes, Alberta has one too) in 2016 and the Bob Creek Ranch in 2025, a total of over 100,000 acres have now been conserved. That's important because this area is home to a large portion of Alberta's remaining native fescue grassland, of which over 85% has been lost to agriculture and development. The Canadian Prairies are actually one of the world's most altered ecosystems, so this conservation project is important for the bears, ungulates, birds and fish that call this ecosystem home.

Here's how the conservation project works, because it's different from most NCC efforts where the charity simply purchases and holds the land:
The land is owned by the Waldron Grazing Co-operative, a partnership of over 80 southern Alberta ranching families. This land, near the Rockies along a scenic highway corridor, has real potential subdivision/acreage-development value. To prevent this future development, the NCC essentially paid the grazing co-op the difference in value between "raw land value with development potential" and "grazing-only land value".

In exchange, the NCC owns a conservation easement โ€” a legal agreement registered against the land title that binds all current and future owners to certain conditions. The easement is primarily a prohibition list: no cultivation for crops, no subdivision, no development, no drainage or changes to wetlands โ€” permanently, regardless of who owns the land. The landowners actually welcomed this, so much so that the co-op used some of their payout to buy ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ land, then made a deal with the NCC to register similar easements on that land too.

Grazing is allowed, of course, with the cattle essentially filling the ecological role once held by the plains bison that used to roam these lands. Fescue grassland actually requires grazing to stay healthy. Co-op ranchers accept the reduced productivity that comes from keeping herd sizes smaller, practicing sustainable grazing techniques like regular rotation and using sheep to control weeds.

In an era where conservation and industry are so often framed as opposites, Waldron is a unique "made in Alberta" success story โ€” and you played a small part!

We're still servicing 5-10 electric cars per day and doing all sorts of leading-edge stuff in the shop, but trying to remember to share some of our older "patients" too!

This beautiful Bronco came to us for some electrical issues, with Technicians Mike and Robert working together on a great repair.
