𝐈𝐒 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐑 𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐍 𝐁𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄?
At Tires On The Run, we install and service a lot of trailer tires — both at our shop in Airdrie and through our mobile tire service.
Every summer, we see travel trailers, utility trailers, boat trailers, and fifth wheels come in with blown tires, damaged fenders, ripped wiring – Money wasted, and camping trips ruined…
The surprising part - Most of those tires still had plenty of tread left!
The biggest enemy of a trailer tire isn't usually wear — it's age.
Most trailers only travel a few thousand kilometres each year, so the tread often looks great even when the tire itself is becoming unsafe.
In addition, we are also seeing a huge difference in tire quality today:
• Some very inexpensive offshore trailer tires — including some that come as original equipment on new trailers — are only lasting 1–2 years before developing serious cracking or failing.
• Even many name-brand trailer tires are regularly failing in the 3–5 year range.
One tire that continues to impress us is the Carlstar (formerly Carlisle) Radial Trail HD. So far, we're still seeing excellent results and commonly expect 6–8 years of safe service life when properly maintained.
What should you look for?
✔ Cracks between the tread blocks
✔ Cracks in the sidewall
✔ Cracking near the rim area
✔ Bulges in the sidewalls
✔ Tires that "look fine" but are several years old
Check the DOT Date Code
Near the bead of the tire, you'll find a series of letters and numbers beginning with "DOT."
At the end, there will either be 4 numbers showing, or a blank space – If there isn’t a 4 digit code, then check the other side of the tire – This code will gell you the manufacturing week:
Example: 2521 = 25th week of 2021
We've met plenty of trailer owners who were shocked to learn their tires were 8 or 12 years old… Our record is 33 years on a camper!
Before your next camping trip, take a few minutes to inspect your trailer tires.
Replacing tires may save you hundreds or thousands, and prevent your trip from being ruined.
If you're not sure whether your trailer tires are still safe, we'd be happy to take a look, no charge.
Be safe out there!

We are hearing from a lot of new clients that they have been calling around town trying to get their summer tires installed, and multiple shops are telling them they are booking 3–4 weeks out.

That’s a long time to keep driving on winter tires once the weather has warmed up.
Winter tires are made with softer rubber, and warmer pavement can wear them down much faster than people realize. Waiting weeks for an appointment may cost you more tread than you think.

At Tires On The Run, we are currently booking for Monday, and we do tire swaps from 7AM–9PM, Monday to Saturday, so you don’t have to miss work or rearrange your whole day.

Our tire swaps are done by appointment, and most are completed in about 15–30 minutes… So EASY!
No dropping your vehicle off for half a day… No waiting weeks… No scrambling for rides…
NO BURNING UP YOUR WINTER TIRES WHILE YOU WAIT FOR THEM!

Many new clients are telling us they’re impressed by the friendly atmosphere, fast service, and how easy the whole process is — and several have said we’re their new tire shop from now on, which means a lot to us at our family run company!

As well, when you support us, you also get access to our Local Rewards Program, with substantial savings from other local companies we know and love.

If you’ve been trying to get booked in and keep hearing “WEEKS from now,” we’d be happy to help. 😁

We had a client who brought his truck in, he works in the oil patch.
He said he washed out the mud, but his truck was shaking so hard that his voice was shaking when he called us for a re-balance.
We always spin the wheels as they are before we re-balance - the mud buildup gave us a new high score for weights required!
(For those who are not experts, a bad truck wheel needs about 8 oz of weight, this was 62.5 oz out)
EGAD! 😳

We understand wanting a good price. Nobody wants to spend more than they need to, especially right now… but when it comes to tires, the lowest price on the quote is not always the best value over time.

A cheaper tire may wear out sooner, be noisier on the highway, perform worse in heavy rain, ride rougher, or offer less warranty support. Yes, you might save a bit today — but if the tire wears out faster, performs poorly, or leaves you unhappy for the next few years, did you really save money?

The right tire should match your vehicle, driving habits, mileage, budget, and expectations. That doesn’t always mean buying the most expensive tire - just the right tire.
At Tires On The Run, our goal is to help you find the best value for how you actually drive. We ask a lot of questions before just trying to sell you something with higher margins - Our goal is to genuinely make sure you get the best value possible.

We had a rare dessert occurrence on Friday and Saturday...
Hannah had a birthday on Friday.
Tom had his on Sunday, but we’re closed Sundays.

So, Angela made chocolate cake on Friday, Apple pie on Saturday! 🎂

Nobody was complaining, other than being too full… 😆

I have the best team, so easy to get along with these guys (and gals!)

RANT COMING… This one really ****ed me off…
We had a young lady, a student, who came to our shop for a leaky tire this morning.

I took a look, saw cords coming out the tire(s), and told her, sorry, these tires are not safe, and haven’t been for quite a while. 😐

We arranged for her to get new tires, today, because she is travelling to BC tomorrow.

THE PART THAT MADE ME MAD IS THIS - She went on Wednesday with this leaky tire to a LARGE TIRE CHAIN… AND WAS TOLD TO JUST KEEP TOPPING IT UP.

She asked them, “IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE TO BC ON THESE TIRES?"

THEY SAID “YES”.

The only thing with less tread than these tires is a balloon - The cords are visible on 3 of these tires, and the tread is so low on these that any amount of rain or water will potentially cause her to lose control… IN THE MOUNTAINS.

As a father of daughters, it just made me completely ****ed off - There is NO UNIVERSE where these tires are “SAFE”.

Why would that other tech say such a ridiculous assurance? My opinion… He just didn’t want to “deal with it”, to have to explain it, to have to install the tires, that it’s too busy anyway, and who cares, it’s just another customer… JUST GO AWAY, DON’T BOTHER ME.

We had a great experience with Bep And Brew for our Fantabulous Friday Lunch at Tires On The Run yesterday, with a special birthday twist!

This spot is is run by a Father & Son team. I've met them both, they seem to be very genuine and friendly guys!

We had some excellent and tasty Vietnamese food… with the exception of one of our guys ordering chicken wings and fries… and some smoothies and bubble teas as well.

Then… we celebrated Hannah's birthday with her favorite - Chocolate cake, made by Angela!

Try Bep and Brew out for yourself!
