Pangolin Voyager, a solar-electric river cruise vessel built in Windhoek and crewed by a Namibian team, has been named both World’s Best River Cruise Ship 2026 and Africa’s Best River Cruise Ship 2026 at the World Cruise Awards, announced in Jamaica on 12 October.

Did you know that even the engines aboard the Pangolin Voyager are fully electric?

Our award-winning houseboat is a trimaran powered by four innovative RAD 40 electric drives, developed by UK-based RAD Propulsion.

Unlike conventional outboard engines converted to electric, these drives were designed from the ground up specifically for electric propulsion. Two are positioned at the front between the hulls, with another two at the rear.

And here's where things get really interesting...

During the day, solar energy harvested from the Voyager's rooftop solar array can be fed directly into the electric drives, allowing us to cruise between our moorings at a leisurely 4–5 km/h, virtually silently and with zero emissions from propulsion while underway.

The result? A wonderfully peaceful journey along the Chobe River, where the sounds of nature take centre stage.

Less engine noise. More sounds of the wild. That's life aboard the Pangolin Voyager.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that the Pangolin Voyager has won not one, but TWO prestigious awards at the 2026 World Cruise Awards

And what better way to share the news than with a surprise visit from Pangolin Photo Safaris Co-Founder Guts, who headed out onto the Chobe River to celebrate with our amazing crew!

A huge congratulations and heartfelt thank you to Nakita and every member of our Voyager family. These awards are a reflection of your hard work, warm hospitality, and unwavering dedication to making every guest's experience truly unforgettable.

We would also like to recognise RAD Propulsion and Windhoek-based engineers Edestahlbau, who custom-built our beautiful houseboat. Thank you for your vision, engineering expertise, and for helping bring the Pangolin Voyager to life.

The Floating Hotel That Creates More Energy Than It Uses?!

Powered by 80 solar panels and 240 kWh of onboard batteries. With zero emissions and silent operation, it enables ridiculous proximity to wildlife. Safe to say, it totally blew us away. The Voyager’s propulsion system uses axial flux motors from RAD Propulsion, leveraging its high-torque slow-spinning propellers, and smart data analytics to deliver an ultra-efficient, perfectly spec’ed, whisper quiet cruising experience.
