The first round of long awaited WSS was a great day for reigning Supersport Champion, Capetonian, David “Mc Flash” Mc Fadden! After an amazing 2011 where he fought probably one of the toughest seasons in many years, having to face the determined Bikefin Honda pack and beat them on a regular basis,
he secured the 2011 Supersport title on the LAST corner, of the LAST lap, of the LAST heat of the season!!

It was decided that David would contest the Superbike category in 2012, having achieved his Supersport goal. He started training late last year on the awesome ZX10R.
Being young, fit, physical and aggressive he came to grips with the ZX10 very quickly and has been anxiously awaiting the start of the season.

There has been some controversy in the last couple of months regarding the final rules and the desire to grow the premiere’ Superbike class which suffered last year. The starting line-up for the first event was in fact slightly bigger than the Supersport class and included the all new Ducati Panigale, which is still undergoing some homologation issues, but will no doubt be a strong contender for the coming season.

The Supersport class was dominated by the incredibly strong Bikefin Honda Team, recently strengthened by the addition of Cameron Petersen, who acquitted himself well last year on a ZX6R. After losing opening batsman Mc Fadden to the Superbike class, the Kawasaki young Guns of Dean Vos, Nick Kershaw & Ivan Torlage have their work cut out against the Honda team, but we have no doubt they will rise to the occasion. Janine Mitchell did not compete after a mishap at the last RSR regional, but we are looking forward to her return to action as soon as possible.

The Superbike race was a somewhat different show, with “Mc Flash” Mc Fadden, dominating both races from the lap, winning BOTH heats by a convincing margin of over 5 Seconds in both heats. Robert Portman, editor of MCSA and Kawasaki supported rider performed solidly getting two sixth positions.

In the first, heat the Ducati finished second. In the second heat reigning Superbike champion Greg Gildenhuys took second position. The Kawasaki season is off to a flyer. The amazing ZX10 is performing to expectations!

A HUGE thank-you is extended to Mark Mc Fadden & Dave Freeman, who keep Mc Flash on track and the ZX10 prepared to do battle and the great folks from EMTEK Racing, looking after Robert!
