Audi A3 8P (1.9 TDI AWX Swap) | EDC16 Swap Trickery & 227 HP Calibration 📈

Tuning cross-platform engine swaps is a test of true software knowledge! This A3 8P rolled into the shop sporting a set of eye-catching Lamborghini doors and an AWX 1.9 TDI engine swap running on the car's native EDC16 ECU.

When it first hit the rollers, it was running rough and blowing smoke (represented by the unbolded baseline on the dyno chart). Calibrating AL injectors and an EDC15-era engine on an EDC16 system isn't just a basic file tweak—it requires specific ECU trickery to bridge the software gap and restore factory-level idle control, timing, and fueling.

Along with mapping the 2060 hybrid turbo, 4-bar MAP sensor, and FMIC, we completely cleaned up the air-fuel ratio. The end result is a smoke-free, reliable powerband peaking at 227 HP and 474 Nm 🔥.

Offroad Race Buggy (1.8T AEB) | B48 Turbo Upgrade & Custom Calibration 📈

Custom motorsports builds require creative engineering and precise engine management. This offroad race buggy is powered by a classic 1.8T AEB engine, but with a modern twist: a retrofitted turbocharger from a BMW B48 paired with upgraded 470cc injectors.

Mating modern turbo technology to a classic 1.8T engine block gives this buggy instant boost response low down in the rev range and a super-wide torque curve. Through careful ECU mapping, we extracted an impressive 305 HP and 421 Nm 🔥 on the dyno.

The Intake Limitation:
In offroad racing, engine survival comes first. To protect the motor from heavy dust and deep water during river crossings, the air filter had to be relocated higher up with extended piping. While this necessary protection creates an intake restriction that caps peak airflow, the setup still pushed past 300 HP. Fitted to a standard road car with a direct high-flow intake, this exact turbo setup would easily produce even higher horsepower figures.

BMW F31 320d | Stage 1 ECU, xHP Stage 3 & Clean Emissions 📈

​Proper calibration means you don't have to compromise on factory emissions systems to make great power. This BMW F31 320d arrived for a complete software transformation to wake up the 2.0L diesel and its 8-speed automatic transmission.

​On the rollers, the car put down a very healthy baseline of 187 HP and 440 Nm on the stock software, slightly overachieving its 184 HP factory rating. We applied a custom Stage 1 ECU calibration tailored for daily reliability, carefully modifying fuel and boost targets while leaving the DPF and EGR systems 100% functional and intact. No smoke, no deleted hardware, just clean, efficient power.

​To perfectly manage the increased torque, we paired the engine tune with an xHP Stage 3 TCU flash. This optimizes the shift points, increases clutch clamping force, and delivers lightning-fast gear changes. The combined result is a fantastic 224 HP and 512 Nm 🔥, completely transforming how this touring drives.

Audi A4 1.8TQ | GT2860, Forged Internals & ME7.5 "5120 Hack" 📈

​Taking the classic 1.8T to the next level requires more than just bolting on a big turbo. This Audi A4 1.8T Quattro rolled onto the dyno featuring a Garrett GT2860, 730cc injectors, an upgraded FMIC, and a built bottom end with forged connecting rods—a mandatory upgrade when pushing past the 400 Nm threshold on these engines.

​The real challenge with big-boost 1.8T builds is the software. The factory Bosch ME7.5 ECU is hard-coded with a diagnostic limit of 1.55 bar of boost. Pushing past that usually means losing closed-loop boost control. To solve this, we applied the "5120 hack" to the ECU's base code. This advanced software modification alters the internal conversion factors, allowing the factory ECU to read the upgraded 4-bar MAP sensor and maintain perfect, factory-style PID boost control well beyond the original limits.

​We also dialed in the 730cc injectors to account for the factory returnless fuel system, ensuring perfect fueling under heavy load. The result? A massive 369 HP and 485 Nm 🔥 safely delivered through the Quattro drivetrain.

Custom Calibration Results: BMW X5 40i (G05) B58 🛠️

​Unlocking the true potential of the B58! This BMW G05 X5 40i xDrive came to the shop looking for a serious performance upgrade.

​Before we could start tuning, we had to bypass the factory security. We sent the ECU out for a full Autotuner bench unlock. Once reinstalled, the baseline dyno pull confirmed what we already know about the B58—they always make more power than BMW advertises, putting down a very strong 382 HP and 581 Nm on the stock software.

​With the ECU unlocked, we mapped a custom calibration specifically for RON 100 fuel. To ensure the transmission could handle the massive bump in torque, we paired the engine tune with an xHP Stage 3 TCU flash. The final output maxed out at an incredible 519 HP and 785 Nm 🔥, turning this luxury SUV into an absolute rocket.

BMW E36 M52B30 Stroker | Custom Siemens MS41 Calibration 📈

​Naturally aspirated OEM+ builds will always have a special place in our shop. This E36 came to the rollers rocking a custom M52B30 stroker engine controlled by the factory Siemens MS41 ECU.

​The hardware recipe on this build is a brilliant mix of classic BMW parts tuning:

​Airflow: High-flowing M50B25 intake manifold paired with upgraded sport headers.
​Valvetrain: Upgraded M54B30 intake camshaft combined with an M50B20 exhaust camshaft.
​Fueling: OEM M52B28 injectors.

​After calibrating the ignition tables and scaling the fuel maps for the increased 3.0L displacement, the car laid down a strong 255 HP and 315 Nm 🔥.

​The Diagnostic Twist:
While the peak top-end power is fantastic, our data logging revealed a hardware issue: a dead VANOS solenoid. Because the VANOS could not advance the intake cam in the mid-range, the low-end torque was heavily compromised. Once the owner replaces the solenoid, the intake timing will advance properly, filling in that lower powerband and making this stroker pull even harder down low.

Ford Transit 2.2L | Stage 1 Calibration & DPF Software Delete 📈

​Proper software calibration is essential when modifying emissions hardware on commercial vehicles. This Ford Transit 2.2L (factory rated at 125 HP) arrived at our shop with the DPF already physically removed, but it was still running the stock engine software.

​We strapped it down for a baseline pull, where it made 127 HP and 358 Nm. To ensure the van runs flawlessly without errors, regeneration cycles, or limp mode, we went into the ECU and properly coded out the DPF system.

​While we had the software open, we applied a custom Stage 1 calibration to wake up this workhorse. The final output is a massive 163 HP and 427 Nm 🔥. That is nearly 70 Nm of extra torque, which completely transforms the pulling power of this Transit when fully loaded with cargo or tools.

VW Passat 1.8T (AWT) | K04 Upgrade & ME7.5 Calibration 📈

​The 1.8T ME7.5 platform is an absolute classic, and a K04 turbo upgrade is one of the best ways to wake up a heavy chassis like the VW Passat.

​This AWT-code 1.8T arrived with a great hardware list: a K04-15 turbocharger, a Front Mount Intercooler (FMIC) to keep intake temperatures in check, and upgraded 470cc injectors. When upgrading fuel injectors, precise scaling within the Bosch ME7.5 engine management is critical to ensure a stable idle, smooth part-throttle drivability, and safe fueling under wide-open throttle.

​After dialing in the fueling and mapping the boost curve for the K04-15, we extracted a highly responsive 223 HP and 360 Nm 🔥. This setup delivers a massive wave of mid-range torque, completely transforming how this Passat accelerates and overtakes on the highway.

Audi A4 1.8T (AEB) | ME3.2 ECU Desoldering & Custom Calibration 📈

​True tuning requires knowing how to calibrate across all generations of engine management. This Audi A4 1.8T features the legendary AEB engine managed by the older 5-plug ME3.2 ECU.

​Many modern tuners will flat-out refuse to touch this generation of engine management. Because OBD port flashing isn't an option, modifying the ME3.2 requires physically opening the ECU, desoldering the memory chip from the motherboard, and programming it on a bench. It is a meticulous process that requires real hardware experience, and we are always up for the challenge.

​The car arrived with a completely stock engine block but a heavy list of custom airflow modifications: an unknown aftermarket turbocharger, a Front Mount Intercooler (FMIC), an 80mm MAF housing, and Bosch 440cc injectors. After desoldering the chip, we manually scaled the parameters to ensure smooth drivability and safe fueling for the oversized MAF and injectors.

​We extracted a highly impressive 265 HP and 381 Nm 🔥, setting the peak boost to a conservative 1.4 bar to perfectly maximize efficiency while keeping the stock engine internals safe.
