Big type4 in a small package.
Tanguy Warnier revamped engine for the season.
New heads, thanks to Udo Becker. Going from a 41x33 valved head to 44x36. From Hans Biesmans Speed Shack ,new long stroke JE pistons and cylinders that needed quite a bit of work (-8.5mm each).
But Monday it was fitted to the car and was started up with a snappy bark.
71x103 engine
Testing and tuning, as all the finishing will be done in the next few weeks. 🤘🚀

Type4 1700 heads opened up for 2,0l pistons and cylinders (by me)
These heads have been reconditioned with new guides and valves (not by me).
These are for a client, who will do the build himself.
I clean them in order to fit the new valves and springs. But always, always, clean parts you have had machined. Cleaning seems to be roughly 80% of my job. 😭
Machining is still the fun part though 😆🚀🤘

In the racing, before cars were billboards for advertisers of different companies, the cars were painted in the colour of the nation.
To this day, we talk about britisch racing green. France was blue, Italy red and America was medium blue with white stripes.
All colours that to this day simmer through in are car culture.

Here is a Belgian example of a yellow car. First street car with 1776, grown into a 2276, and now a healty race only 2276, that sees many events each year.

I had the pleasure to machine away some yellow to make the slots in the plates. It is something different and an opportunity to talk about the national colours of racecars. Fill the comments with examples of your nation or others. Enjoy 🤘🤪

Cinderella syndrome

First off, long time no post! Yet, i see that people find their way to my page. Thank you.

Also lately (again) lots of questions about beaings and their fit.
Without the intention to start or fuel the debate, i want to say what i see and what i do.
If i chose to use a part that is not 100% right, i either not use it, or if possible i make it, adapt it,... to have it 100% right.
Here i am machining a bearing trust to make it fit the cut i did on the case. The case was cut as deep, just to have a clean face. The bearing is aftwards cut to suit that size.
I would love to see parts being made in different tolerances (like it was done in the vw factory btw) to pick and chose, but we are such a small segment that at one hand we should be glad we still have a market value for parts to be made.
On the other side, quality control of manufacturing and building should be a must in every build for every part. There never was one part that fits all. 🤘🚀

After seizing the trust bearing at clastres early may, I worked on the engine after hours. And last weekend I finally fired it up again. So the last week has been a rush to finish the engine and car. I wanted to make it to Clastres again this weekend. I don’t believe in luck, but I am squeezing my cheeks a bit more in the idea that it all will run okay 😅🤘🤘

Horizontal is the new vertical!
A few days ago I had this problem. The center pin to locate my trust bearing was taken out. It happened after my engine seized at Clastres .
After some examination I thought about just trying to revise the pin location without lineboring the case.
I have never done this and I don’t have the cutters to make a 0 pass.
So in the end I made this contraption to try it out.

Sunday a friend sent me a message to say he saw a red type3 on a trailer. I had to sent him this picture of my type3. I took it out of hibernation 2 years ago and haven’t done 100km with it. But Sunday morning I washed it and Sunday evening I took it for a spin. We all should be doing that more often. It’s weird how much happiness it can bring. Enjoy your rides!
