Powerful, muscular, and instantly recognizable, the Renault 5 Turbo continues to impress enthusiasts more than 40 years after its debut. Its radical rear mid-engine layout, combined with an offset wheelbase and massively widened tracks, creates a taut, aggressive silhouette that was truly without equal in its era 🔥

In response to this rising demand, several companies have specialized in the development and (re)construction of Renault 5 Turbo models. Among them, 3S Développement, based in the hills above Nice, is one of the most highly regarded. It was in their workshops that the car presented here was assembled between 2013 and 2014. It is identified by internal 3S Développement serial number 169, riveted in the engine bay.

Built on the basis of a 1981 Renault 5 Turbo bodyshell, the car was constructed using new components, compliant with either “Cévennes” or “Tour de Corse” specifications, depending on the preferences and budgetary constraints of its first owner, Gilles Gibier.

Of excellent overall quality, both mechanically and in terms of bodywork, the car is enhanced by its iconic “Diac” livery 🏁

🔵 Three participations in the 24 Hours of Chamonix ice race ❄️

Introduced in 1984, the 205 T16 quickly dominated the World Rally Championship, winning two manufacturers’ titles and two drivers’ titles 🏁

To homologate the 205 T16 for Group B, Peugeot was required to produce 200 road-going units. These “Series 200” cars, assembled in Poissy and finished by Heuliez, retained the specific chassis, mid-engine layout, and all-wheel-drive system of the competition version — in a more civilized configuration. Rare, numbered, and directly derived from the factory program, many were later converted for competition use.

This is precisely the case with the chassis presented here. Assembled in 1984, it was purchased directly from Peugeot-Talbot Sport by Jean-Christian Duby and quickly sent into competition. Still in its original “Series 200” form, it raced the legendary 24 Hours of Ice at Chamonix in February 1985 ❄️🔥

In 2004, Belgian preparer Future World made waves by unveiling a Porsche 996 GT3 developed specifically for road competitions — a bold and unexpected move at the time.

Officially supported by Porsche, it marked the brand’s return to rallying for the first time since the legendary 911 SC RS Group B of 1984.

Although the “Road Challenge” series was never launched, all ten cars were sold, with several going on to compete in rallies after being rented directly from Future World.

This chassis is one of them. Acquired in 2007 by Henri Schmelcher, already owner of another 996 GT3 RC, it competed in Belgian rally events between 2008 and 2012 🇧🇪

It’s always a pleasure to welcome Thomas Bastin to our workshop, and even more so for a great interview with our friend Bruno Thiry, one of the pioneering Belgians in the WRC 🤩

J’ai rêvé en ce mois de mai 1995, attendant impatiemment le prochain flash info à la radio. Suivre les rallyes à l’époque n’avait rien de comparable à aujourd’hui. Internet n’existait pas et Rally TV n’était qu’un rêve utopique. Bruno Thiry et Stéphane Prevot allaient gagner le Tour de Corse !
Puis j’ai pleuré ce 5 mai 1995 quand la mécanique de leur Ford Es**rt RS Cosworth en a décidé autrement.
J’avais 13 ans. Je me souviens de ce reportage dans l’émission de Paul Fraikin Champion's la semaine suivante. Ça fait partie des éléments qui ont façonné ma passion.
J’ai toujours admiré Bruno lors de ses exploits dans le Belgian Rally Championship , puis en mondial. Il a été l’une de mes premières interviews quand j’ai travaillé pour Radio Rallye au Rallye du Condroz du Royale Motor Club de Huy.
Alors, quelle joie d’avoir pu l’inviter dans l’émission Car(tes) Control sur ma chaîne Tom Corner. C’était vraiment un super moment et j’espère que vous apprécierez tout autant. 😊
