ENQA disseminates information, experiences and good practices in the field of QA in HE to European QA agencies, public authorities and HEIs.

The European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) is an umbrella organisation which represents its members at the European level and internationally, especially in political decision making processes and in co-operations with stakeholder organisations. The Association aims to maintain and enhance the quality of European higher education at a high level, and to act as a major driving force for the development of quality assurance across all the Bologna signatory countries. ENQA contributes to this goal especially by promoting European co-operation in the field of quality assurance in higher education and disseminating information and expertise among its members and towards stakeholders in order to develop and share good practice and to foster the European dimension of quality assurance.

This week, the Academic Information Centre (AIC, Latvia) has hosted the second seminar of the ENQA Leadership Development Programme (LDP) 2026. The seminar has focused on the topic of organisational culture in higher education. 🧩

The ENQA LDP is designed to provide an intensive European peer-learning experience for mid-potential professional staff in ENQA member and affiliate quality assurance agencies. It is organised in collaboration with the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies.

☑️ This week, the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (IQAA, Kazakhstan) has hosted a site visit for a targeted review coordinated by ENQA.

ENQA targeted reviews emphasise enhancement and reflection, supporting agencies’ strategic goals. At the same time, the targeted review is a process of evaluating agencies' remaining challenges in reaching ESG compliance, and, if applicable, any substantive changes at the agency since the previous review. 📈

🎙️ Last week, ENQA President Cristina Ghitulica attended the X Central Asian International Forum on Quality Assurance in Education.

The event, entitled "Enhancing Quality in the Era of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies: New Horizons in Education" was hosted by the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR, Kazakhstan) in Astana on 2-3 October 2026. The ENQA President took part in a panel discussion on enhancing the quality of education in the context of global challenges.

In its meeting held on 1 September 2026, the ENQA Agency Reviews Committee (ARC) validated the following external review reports:

✅ European Council for Theological Education (ECTE)

✅ Agency for Development of Higher Education and Quality Assurance of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HEA)
✅ Icelandic Agency for Quality Assurance (IAQA)
✅ Central Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation (ZEvA, Germany)

The ENQA ARC is responsible for validating external review reports by assessing the integrity of the review process and checking the quality and consistency of the reports.

🎙️ Yesterday, ENQA took part in the 4th annual conference of the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA) in Prishtina. The conference focused on the topic "Internal Quality Assurance in Higher Education Institutions: From Evaluation to Quality Culture".

ENQA Director Anna Gover delivered a keynote presentation on European perspectives on the role and achievements of quality assurance agencies in strengthening quality culture within higher education institutions.

ENQA Vice-President Patrick Van den Bosch and Board Member Péter Levente Lakatos took part in a panel discussion exploring the role of QA agencies in strengthening higher education quality.

☑️ Last week, the Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC) hosted a site visit for an ENQA-coordinated targeted review.

The principal aim of a targeted review is to provide the agencies that have successfully undergone at least two full ESG reviews with an alternative way to assessing their compliance with the ESG.

As part of the project, co-funded by the European Union, ENQA has organised an online round-table this week with representatives of various stakeholder organisations from trans-national education (TNE) receiving countries.

🔎 During the meeting, ENQA has presented the results of its mapping exercise and ensured that stakeholders' voices were properly represented in the discussions and further work of the project.

This round-table was organized jointly with the first meeting of the ROQA-TNE International Advisory Board, composed of representatives from EHEA and international partners. 🌎🌍🌏
