European Minerals Day

European Minerals Day Together for a sustainable future The European Minerals Day 2009 engaged children and adults at more than 160 sites in 27 countries.

This initiative by the European minerals sector and related organisations gives the opportunity to the European-wide public to explore the world of minerals and discover more about an industry that affects every aspect of our lives. This biannual event welcomed more than 30,000 visitors in over 100 sites in 17 European countries during its first edition in 2007. In the 2011 edition, more than 180

sites in 21 European countries & 11 in the rest of the world have taken part - good for more than 200 events!

A brief impression of the EMD in Poland! Nordkalk welcomed citizens of Miedzianka to its limestone operations on 30 September at the occasion of European Minerals Day 2017. On 29 September, it hosted 5 workshops at the local schools around "The Story of life on earth written in the rocks", and run by Blazej Blazejowski from Association Phacops.

EMD 2017 in Finland: On 19 May, more than 800 people celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the limestone operations in Kalkkimaa! The festivities included a bus tour to the mines, the launch of a history book on 100 years of mining in Tornio, an exhibition telling the story of the site and allowing for exploring the mineral rocks, laboratory technology, simulators and machine and many more.
