This image captures a typical view from the famous bus stop chicane during the Spa 24 Hours race in 1985. Thierry Boutsen, who had driving duties in Formula 1 with an Arrows A8, teamed up with team owner Walter Brun and German driver Harald Grohs to race a BMW 635 CSi.

This was the golden age of Group A touring cars, featuring numerous works-supported entries from Rover, Volvo, and BMW, with later participation from Ford, Alfa Romeo, and Holden.

The Rudy Billen-sponsored car qualified sixth on the grid but did not finish the 9th round of the European Touring Car Championship due to an oil pump failure.

This is the start of the Bergischer Löwe in Zolder, first round of the 1988 DTM season.

Three Ford Sierra RS500 are leading the pack with Klaus Niedzwiedz with the Ringhausen one in front of Klaus Ludwig (Grab) and Armin Hahne (Wolf).

Behind this trio, 17 BMW M3, 13 Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 and a single Opel Kadett are decided to fight hard on this little twisty track.

French rally driver Jean-Claude Andruet is about to go through the La Source hairpin during the 1977 Spa 24 Hours.

Paired with Belgian ace Eddy Joosen on the Kinley/Castrol Juma BMW 530i US, he would won the race ahead of Gerry Marshall / Peter Brock in the Vauhall Firenza Magnum and Vince Woodman / Jonathan Buncombe in the Esso Uniflo Ford Capri 3.0 🏁

Marc Duez is pushing hard his TWR Rover Vitesse shared with Peter Lovett and Jean-Louis Schlesser through the exit of the bus stop chicane. This is the qualifying session for the Spa 24 hours in 1984 - 9th round of the European Touring Car Championship for group A.

In the 1987 World Touring Car Championship, Alfa Romeo presented an impressive line-up. However, their 75 Turbo failed to match the performance of its rivals, the BMW M3 and the Ford Sierra RS500.

The #75 entry by Alfa Corse at the Spa 24 Hours with Jacques Laffite, Paolo Barilla, and Jean-Louis Schlesser crossed the finish line in P12, but 34 laps behind the winning M3 of the Belgian trio (J-M. Martin, D. Theys & E. van de Poele).

The 1982 edition of the Grosser Preis der Tourenwagen at the Nürburgring was the 8th round of the European Championship. The race was won by the TWR Jaguar XJ-S raced by Tom Walkinshaw, Chuck Nicholson and Pierre Dieudonné.

Since it was the first year of the group A regulations, the organizers still allowed group 1B cars to get a decent grids but they were not marking points in the ETCC championship.

One of these entries was the Eichberg Ford Capri 3.0 for Dieter Gartmann, Klaus Ludwig and Ari Vatanen... Pictured here might be Ari, sliding his car to overtake another Eichberg Capri driven by journalist and then vice president of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, Norbert Haug.

Lights on for the Waterloo Motors Team Gitanes BMW 635 csi that was raced by Jean-Pierre Jaussaud, Xavier Lapeyre and Philippe Haezebrouck during the 1983 edition of the Spa 24 Hours (10th round of the European Touring Car Championship).

Unfortunately, the French trio will not make it to the finish. The car was retired at the 16th hour (electrics)...

Alex Soler-Roig (Ford Capri 2600 RS werks) is chasing Dieter Quester (BMW 2800 CS Schnitzer) while Hans Heyer (BMW 2002 Koepchen) try to follow. This is the Zandvoort Trophy, 6th round of the 1971 European Touring Car Championship.

This is the Interlance Ford Capri RS 2600 driven by Dutch racers Ron Kluit, Boy Hayje and Ernst Berg at Zandvoort for the 5th round of the 1975 European Touring Car Championship.

Leading the touring car class, the old lady would finally finish 7th oa and 3rd in class despite a suspension failure.

These were the days where only the braves would post a good lap time at Spa. The Raidillon was way more challenging - and bumpy as well.

Here is Pierre-Alain Thibaut in the Bastos Juma Racing Team BMW 635 csi at the 1984 Spa 24 Hours.

With Jo Gardner and Lucien Guitteny, the Belgian driver would finish 4th while the sister car of Thierry Tassin, Alain Cudini and Dany Snobeck finished 2nd - behind the winning Jag of Uncle Tom…
