When should you change your engine oil?

For many cars, an oil change is recommended around 10,000 to 15,000 km.

But mileage is only a guideline. Short trips, cold starts, city traffic and heavy loads can make your oil work harder — and may require an earlier change.

Always check the vehicle manual, follow the correct OEM specification and use the right oil for the engine.

❄️ What happens inside your engine during a cold start?

A large part of engine wear can occur when the engine has just started and the oil still needs to circulate.
During a cold start, the lubricant must quickly reach critical components while performing at a lower temperature.
That is why cold-flow properties and the correct viscosity grade matter, especially for vehicles that make frequent short journeys or operate in cold conditions.

What exactly is 10W-40?

10W-40 refers to the viscosity grade of the oil: how easily it flows under different temperatures.

The 10W indicates how the oil performs during cold starts. The lower the number before the W, the easier the oil flows in low temperatures.

The 40 refers to the oil’s viscosity at normal engine operating temperature. The higher this number, the thicker the oil remains when hot.

But viscosity is only one part of choosing the right oil. For optimal protection and performance, always follow the correct engine specification and required OEM approval.
