Founder
Mr. Mukhlesur Rahman (53), M.A in History was the third son of his illustrious father Mr. Nurul Bhuiyan. Bhuiyan had started his business career in the forties and was the founder President of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce & Industry from April 25, 1961 to December 15, 1962. He was the founder of Eastern Motors Ltd., the sole Distributor for Bridgestone Corporation, Japan. Bhuiyan was also elected Member of Provincial Assembly in the erstwhile assembly of East Pakistan in 1965.Mr. Mukhlesur Rahman established Uttara Motors Ltid (UML) in 1972 and was the founder Chairman & Managing Director. From inception UML is dealing mostly with the automobile sector with internationally renowned manufacturers of India and Japan like Bajaj Auto Ltd, Isuzu Motors Ltd., Suzuki Motor Crop & Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Mr. Rahman set up Menoka Motors Ltd., the country's first assembling plant for 3 wheeler auto-rickshaws and 2 wheeler scooters under technical collaboration agreement with Bajaj Auto Ltd in 1978, another assembling plant for assembling of Trucks and Buses was established in Chittagong under business and technical collaboration with Isuzu Motors Ltd., Japan in 1986 and later added another line with Swaraj Mazda Ltd., India. Beside the automobile industries, Mr. Rahman also diversified his business into the textile sector and the pharmaceutical sector. He then ventured into the insurance industry (both Life and General) and the Lease/Finance industry. Rahman was a very widely traveled person and a philanthropist. He was also a dedicated patron of learning and worked personally to further the education in his native village of Chargas in Upazilla Kushba under the district of Brahmanbaria through the school and college set up there by his father and family.
