🚨 TOWED IN, NO DRIVE… BUT NOT THE WORST NEWS! 🔧

Toyota LandCruiser Prado 150 Series arrived to the workshop on the back of a tow truck, and the customer was understandably preparing for the worst (complete transmission rebuild.)

After carrying out our diagnosis, we found the culprit. The splined coupling connecting the transmission output shaft to the transfer case had completely failed! 😬

As you can see in the photos, the coupling had split apart and unfortunately damaged the transmission output shaft splines in the process.

With the damage identified, we removed the transmission, completely stripped it down, inspected the internal components and replaced the damaged output shaft.

The transmission was then reassembled, refitted to the vehicle along with a new coupling, and the Prado was back on the road! 💪

✅ No complete transmission rebuild required!

And that's the point we want to make with this one.

Just because your transmission has suffered a major failure doesn't always mean it needs a complete rebuild or replacement. Sometimes, with the right diagnosis and a targeted repair, we can get you back on the road without the expense of a full recondition.

🔥 THIS GOLF R TOOK “COOKED CLUTCH” TO ANOTHER LEVEL 🔥
This Golf R came in with a seriously failed clutch, and once we pulled the gearbox out we found just how hot things had gotten.
The clutch had been absolutely torched, generating enough heat to melt the plastic slave cylinder inside the bellhousing. 😳
With the factory setup done for, we fitted an NPC Heavy Duty Single Mass Conversion clutch kit.
The NPC kit is a great upgrade for the Golf R - increased clutch capacity, a more robust setup and, importantly, a cost-effective alternative to replacing the very expensive factory dual-mass flywheel.
For a performance car that's going to be driven the way a Golf R should be, it makes a lot of sense. 👌
Bellhousing cleaned out, new slave cylinder fitted, NPC heavy-duty clutch and single-mass flywheel installed and she's back together ready for action. 🔧💪

A bit of ’90s JDM goodness through the workshop 🇯🇵

This Nissan Z32 300ZX came in for a full automatic transmission and differential recondition.

Both units were removed, stripped, inspected and completely rebuilt in-house before being refitted to get this Z back on the road.

And what a nice example it was. For a car that's now over 30 years old, this thing presented extremely well and has clearly been looked after.

Definitely not something we see every day anymore. We work on plenty of late-model transmissions, so it's always good to mix things up and get our hands on some proper ’90s JDM classics.

Hopefully we'll be seeing this one cruising around for many more years yet.

SRT Grand Cherokee on the bench, this time for a complete transfer case rebuild.

These transfer cases have a big job transferring all that HEMI power through the AWD system, and when they start developing problems you can experience binding, shuddering, clunking or abnormal driveline noises.

This one has been completely stripped, inspected and rebuilt, ready to go back into the Jeep and get all four wheels doing what they’re supposed to. 💪

Hear a grumble from your Outlander or X-Trail CVT? Don’t ignore it. ⚠️

This Mitsubishi Outlander came in with a reduction gear bearing failure in its CVT — and unfortunately, this one was driven for too long after the noise started.

By the time we pulled it down, the bearing had failed completely. What may have started as a grumble has now turned into a much bigger repair.

This CVT is also commonly found in the Nissan X-Trail, and reduction gear bearing noise is something worth catching early.

If your Outlander or X-Trail is developing a grumbling, humming or bearing-type noise while driving, get it checked before it gets to this stage. Catching the problem early can be the difference between repairing the fault and dealing with the aftermath of a complete failure.

Another tough TH400 out the door. 💪
This full manual, reverse-pattern TH400 is heading home, built to handle the punishment behind a tough LS. With a few carefully selected internal upgrades, it's ready for plenty of hard launches and reliable passes down the strip.

Toyota RAV4 was towed in with no drive. After our testing pointed to an internal CVT failure, it was time to tear it down.

✔️ Pan removed... belt material.
✔️ Valve body removed... even more belt material.
✔️ Transmission stripped... there's the culprit—a broken CVT belt. 💥

There's nothing better than a teardown confirming exactly what your testing told you. Now it's onto the rebuild and getting this RAV4 back on the road.
Don't let anyone tell you CVT transmissions can't be repaired.
