Battery information so your getting the correct battery for your application.

The main difference between a dry cell (sealed) battery and a traditional flooded lead-acid battery is how the electrolyte (battery acid) is contained and how much maintenance they require.

Dry Cell (Sealed Lead Acid / AGM / Gel)

Flooded Lead-Acid Battery

Electrolyte is sealed inside the battery

Liquid acid moves freely inside the battery

Maintenance-free

May require topping up with distilled water

Spill-resistant

Can leak or spill if tipped over

Can be mounted in more positions (depending on type)

Must stay upright

Better resistance to vibration

Less resistant to vibration

Usually more expensive

Usually cheaper

Lower self-discharge when stored

Discharges faster when left unused

Dry Cell (AGM or Gel)

These batteries are often used in:

* Modern cars with start-stop systems (AGM)
* Motorcycles
* Caravans
* Boats
* Solar power systems
* Backup power supplies

Pros:

* Maintenance-free
* Safer because they are sealed
* Better performance under vibration
* Generally longer service life if properly charged

Cons:

* Higher purchase price
* Can be damaged if charged with the wrong charger, especially Gel batteries

Flooded Lead-Acid Battery

This is the traditional battery found in many older vehicles and machinery.

Pros:

* Lower cost
* Reliable for engine starting
* Easy to test and service

Cons:

* Requires occasional maintenance on some models
* Can leak acid
* Doesn’t tolerate deep discharges as well
* Shorter lifespan if regularly discharged

Which is better?

* For everyday cars: A flooded lead-acid battery is usually the most economical choice unless the vehicle requires an AGM battery.
* For 4WDs, caravans, marine use, and deep-cycle applications: AGM batteries are generally the better option because they handle vibration and repeated charging/discharging much better.
* For vehicles with stop-start technology: Always replace the battery with the type specified by the manufacturer—usually AGM or EFB. Downgrading to a flooded battery can cause charging and performance problems.

Since you’re running DDN Batteries, it’s also worth explaining to customers that many people refer to AGM batteries as “dry cell” batteries. Technically, they still contain acid, but it’s absorbed into a fiberglass mat (AGM) or mixed into a gel, rather than being free-flowing liquid. This is why they’re called sealed or maintenance-free batteries
