TPR Powersports

TPR Powersports Qualified Motorcycle / Marine Mechanic available to Service, Tune, Repair & Rebuild all Major Brands Over Two Decades in the Making TPR Powersports. Tyson

Born into a motoring / motorsport family I was destined to be on wheels and in the workshop, always hands-on with my Father teaching me many things from an early age. I maintained, repaired, rebuilt, even built my own gear when the budget didn’t stretch to buy it. I got my first motorcycle at age 4 and the seed for what has become a life long passion was sewn. I raced bikes in my teens and 20s and

began working in a motorcycle dealership straight after my schooling. I finished year 12 and went straight to TAFE to study Automotive Engineering full time for six months, finished the course on the Friday and drove through the night to race a State MX Title round, drove home Sunday evening and started my apprenticeship on the Monday morning. That began 23 straight years working in Motorcycle and Personal Watercraft Dealerships, living the same passion as my customers on Street Bikes, Dirt Bikes and Jetskis. I am a Qualified Light Engine Mechanic (Motorcycle / Marine / Power Equipment) and have over two decades of experience in the Motorcycle / Powersports Industry. I am a Certified Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, CanAm and Seadoo Technician, in addition to that have worked in dealerships for Husqvarna, Sherco, Polaris, Mv Agusta, Laverda, Ural, Cagiva, GasGas, TM, Alfer, Vor and Motovert, and have worked on all brands of Japanese, European and American motorcycles and watercraft, including KTM, BMW, Harley and Ducati. After many years working in other peoples bike shops as a Mechanic, Service Manager and Parts Interpreter, I’ve started my own business. Founder, Owner, Manager, Mechanic it’s me, the bloke who answers the phone and books the job, is the bloke who quotes the job, sources the parts and completes the work, you won’t be handballed from a receptionist to a service advisor, to the service manager and finally on to the mechanic who you may never get to speak to. My pride in my work and attention to detail are your guarantee and I’ll be there to answer any questions from start to finish. My workshop is well equipped to carry out most work in house, meaning I can control the quality of each step and deliver jobs back faster, I am also happy to take on many jobs outside the usual scope of a general mechanical workshop. I want TPR Powersports to be your one-stop destination, bring your Jetski in for a service and if the jet-pump or supercharger need rebuilding, or if the trailer has cracked and the lights don’t work, no problem, your bike has blown fork seals or shock and needs linkage, head-stem or wheel bearings replaced, no problem, your ATV needs ball-joints, new drive-shafts, a carby overhaul or that broken tow hitch welded up, no problem, we’ll handle the lot! While I don’t have a dealership, shiny showroom or huge range of parts and accessories, I also don’t have their over-heads that you pay for in the products and labour rate. I do however keep a comprehensive range of service parts and fluids and common consumable parts, and what I don’t have I can source for you.

Seadoo Spark in for a service, new jet-pump wear-ring, and a new battery in preparation for the upcoming season.
This one also got a fuel system flush and new spark plugs, due to having been laid up for quite some time, that required removing the top deck from the hull to gain access.

A quick reminder about Services vs Restorations:

We’re predominantly a service and repair workshop, not a dedicated restoration shop.

A service is routine preventative maintenance on a running vehicle.
If your bike, quad, jetski, or outboard motor hasn’t run for years, is partly dismantled, or you genuinely don’t know its history, that’s completely fine, just tell us upfront.
We know that’s not always something customers think about, and there’s absolutely no judgement.
It simply allows us to explain to you the likely cost and timeframe, quote the job properly, allocate the right amount of workshop time, and avoid delaying other customers who are booked in.
Help us give every bike or boat the time and quality it deserves by telling us the true story from the start.

This week’s Suzuki LT80 in the post below is a perfect example.

Thank you👍

Suzuki Quad booked in as a service and to fit a new clutch which the customer had.
What turned up was a 30 year old LT80 which hadn't run in about 20 years, partly dismantled, and with lots of issues!! Not a "service" at all, rather a restoration!
Many hours, lots of parts, and lots of head shaking wondering why I didn't just say no, when most workshops turn away jobs half as bad...
First thing was to repair the electrics. New battery, new main fuse and fuse holder, new starter relay, handlebar switches overhaulled, and numerous broken and corroded wires replaced. In fact it's a stretch to call those strings of insulated corrosion-dust wires at all, it'd be like calling termites holding hands a wooden boat...
Right now we can see if it turns over and has spark, well not quite, now we have to remove the drive belt and front pulley to access the starter motor bendix, which is rusted solid and won't engage the flywheel.
Now that it's cranking over and has a spark, on to the fuel system. Carby overhauled, new manifold oring, and a gasket made for the reed-valve, blocked fuel tap repaired, blocked fuel cap breather cleared, new fuel line and filter, new vacuum line, breather tubes, and drain hoses, and a new air filter fitted, add 2L of the first fuel it's seen since around the time of the Sydney Olympics, and cross all my fingers.
The two-stroke oil -injection pump that was hanging from its hose got a good wash, bled the air, tested it, and reunited with its drive gears, and just a dash of oil added to the tank to be sure after it's extended hibernation.
Ready to try starting it now, no there's a seized throttle cable as well, so we made a new one.
Finally we have a running engine, now to look at the clutch that apparently needed replacing. Other than cleaning off years of rust from what I can only assume was the result of it residing dismantled under a tree for a decade or more, the clutch and belt were fine.
Lastly the seized front brakes. Both drum brakes got dismantled, cleaned and given some grease (I find it has better lubricating properties than rust). One brake cable lubricated and freed-up ok, the other was too far gone so we made a new one.

After cleaing away years of leaves and gum nuts, evicting many spiders, removing the abandoned houses of mud wasps long passed, and more than a few very late nights in the workshop (sorry to my wife who's barely seen me the past two weeks), it's all back together and running well, and just in time for the little fellas birthday this weekend, his smile made it all worth while!
Fortunately it didn't need a new clutch after all, because the new one wasn't there in the box of puzzle-pieces anyway...

TPR Powersports would like to remind people that we are not a restoration shop, and that "Services" are routine preventative maintenance for running vehicles, Not that 40 year old bike that hasn't fired since 1990 when it broke down, who's last three owners haven't heard it run, and which has been pulled apart by your mate who broke a few bits removing them with I'm assuming an axe, then lost some of the others...
Help me to help you, by telling me the true story up front. I'd rather you said you don't know, than throw a huge spanner in my works👍
Anyway here's some pics of the "service"

1999 Harley Davidson FXD Super Glide
Bike came in for a Roadworthy, then broke down with no spark. We replaced the crank sensor and got it running again, only for the battery to go flat. Tested the charging system and it was making no power at all! Replaced the damaged flywheel and stator, and got the charging system back operational. Now back to the job it came in for...
Roadworthy Passed and finally back home to its owner, all be it a couple of weeks later than originally planned.
Thanks for choosing TPR Powersports!
