πŸ”‘ Car Key Replacement - the true cost of losing your car keys πŸ”‘

Remember when a spare car key cost ten bucks?

You'd wander into the shopping centre, wait five minutes, and walk out with a copy. Those days are long gone.

▢️ Most cars built in the last twenty years use a key with a chip in it. That key has to be ordered in, cut, and then coded to your car. Depending on the make and model, you're looking at roughly $250 to $750 for one replacement.

▢️ Lose every key you own and it gets worse. The whole set has to be made from scratch and the car's computer reset to match. That job usually has to go through a dealership, and the bill can land somewhere between $2,000 and $5,000. 😳

▢️ Then there's the part nobody thinks about β€” the time. You're off the road while you wait, and you've spent half a day tearing the house apart first.

Two things worth doing. Keep your spare somewhere safe and known, not floating in the bottom of a handbag. And if you're buying a used car, ask to see all the original keys before you hand over any money. Plenty of second-hand cars turn up with just the one, and that's a hidden cost you'll wear later. πŸš—

The Urbenville SES vehicle rolled through for a rego check recently, and jobs like this remind us why our work matters πŸš¨πŸ”§ Vehicles like this one need to be ready to go at a moment's notice, storms, floods, road accidents, whatever the call is, so there's no room for anything less than spot on. When we check over an SES vehicle, we're looking at things like:

πŸ›ž Tyres and brakes, no compromises here
πŸ”‹ Battery and electrical system
πŸ’‘ Lights and reflective markings, all fully working
πŸ”© Trailer and towing gear, checked and secure

It's a responsibility we take seriously, keeping the vehicles that keep our community safe running at their best. Thank you to our local SES volunteers for everything you do πŸ™

πŸŽ‰ Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there

To the ones who taught us how to check the oil and change a tyre. The ones who reversed the trailer when we couldn't get it straight. The ones who kept the old ute running another year with plenty of patience.

To the grandads, the stepdads, the uncles and the blokes who stepped up when someone needed them to. Today's for you too. ❀️

And for anyone missing their dad this weekend β€” thinking of you.

Hope you get a sleep-in, a decent feed and a quiet afternoon. You've earned it. πŸ³β˜•οΈ 🍻

From all of us at Woodenbong Driveway, have a good one.

⚑ Colin's found the new Powerade and he's not sharing

Sour Grape Shocker has landed in the fridge, and it's exactly what the name suggests. Sour, purple, and a decent kick to it. Colin grabbed two!

2 for $7.99 while stocks last.

Good after a morning on the tools, a run around the paddock, or when the drive home needs a bit of help. And a fair warning for the parents β€” the kids will spot the purple bottle from the door. πŸ˜„

Also new in and going well are the CocoCoast coconut waters if you want something a bit gentler. Both are in the cold drinks fridge.

Shop hours are Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm and Saturday 7am to 12pm. Sunday we're closed, but the fuel bowsers are self serve after hours.

Anyone tried the Sour Grape yet? Tell us what you reckon in the comments. πŸ‡

πŸ₯₯ New in the fridge, and they're walking out the door

That's Ruth showing off the two flavours everyone's been asking about β€” CocoCoast Natural Coconut Water in Passionfruit and Lychee.

They're made from young green coconuts, paired with real fruit. No added sugar, no preservatives, and nothing on the label you need to Google. Dairy free and gluten free too, which suits a fair few people around here.

We were honestly a bit unsure how they'd go. Turns out we didn't need to be β€” they've been one of the quickest movers in the fridge since they landed. Even a few coconut water sceptics have come back for a second one. πŸ˜„

▢️ Grab 2 for $6.99 while they're in stock.

▢️ Perfect for a hot day in the paddock, the drive back over the range, or when you want something cold that isn't another soft drink.

▢️ They're in the cold drinks fridge in the shop. Shop hours are Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm and Saturday 7am to 12pm.

Which one's better, Passionfruit or Lychee? Let us know in the comments β€” the team can't agree. πŸ₯

πŸš— School holidays are nearly here, and the Summerland Way is about to get busy

Every state breaks at a slightly different time this year, which means a steady stream of caravans, campers and carloads of kids coming through town for about a month. Here's how it falls:

Australian Capital Territory (ACT): September 26 to October 12, 2026
New South Wales (NSW): September 28 to October 9, 2026
Northern Territory (NT): September 19 to October 5, 2026
Queensland (QLD): September 21 to October 5, 2026 (Term 3 finishes September 18)
South Australia (SA): September 26 to October 11, 2026
Tasmania (TAS): October 3 to October 18, 2026
Victoria (VIC): September 19 to October 4, 2026 (Term 3 finishes September 18)
Western Australia (WA):

A few things worth doing before you head off:

▢️ Book your service now, not the week before. Our workshop is already filling up and the holiday period gets hectic. If your car is due, or it's been a while, get in early.

▢️ Check your tyres properly. Pressure, tread, and don't forget the spare. Same goes for the caravan or trailer if you're towing.

▢️ Top up the washer fluid and have a quick look at the oil. Two minutes in the driveway beats a roadside stop with three cranky kids in the back. πŸ”§

And if you're just passing through Woodenbong β€” pull in, grab a pie, a coffee, an ice cream for the kids and stretch your legs. We're open Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm, and Saturday mornings 7am to 12pm.

Before you hit the road: A few quick checks before a long drive can save you a real headache down the track πŸ”§βœ… Before you head off, give these a look:

β›½ Fuel
πŸ›’οΈ Oil
πŸ’§ Water/coolant
πŸ›ž Tyre pressures, including the spare! A flat spare is going to be a real pain.

These only take a few minutes but can be the difference between a smooth trip and being stuck on the side of the road. If it's been a while since your last service, get in touch and we'll give the car a proper once-over.

Yowie Gathering wrap-up! πŸ‘£ What a weekend Woodenbong just had!

The Yowie Gathering filled the Town Hall on Saturday 29 August, and for a day there our little town had many visitors. People came in from Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney, Ballarat, Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay, Toowoomba and plenty of places in between.

A lot of you pulled in here on the way through for fuel, a pie, an ice cream or a cold drink. Thanks for stopping and saying g'day, it was a cracking day behind the counter.

Bridie Tanner from ABC North Coast Breakfast even ran a story on it, so word travelled well past the Border Ranges. Not bad for a town of 390. πŸ†

Have a listen to the ABC yarn here: https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/northcoast-breakfast/yowie-gathering-woodenbong/107097570

Now here's the ask. The Yowie Gathering Woodenbong page has only 97 followers, and the event pages are being taken down soon. If you want to hear about the next one first, give them a follow on their page, so you don't miss any future news and events πŸ‘‰πŸ‘‰ https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61590973155125 πŸ‘ˆοΈ πŸ‘ˆοΈ

To everyone who made the trip, it was fabulous to have you here and we hope you come back. To the locals who pulled it all together, hats off to you.
