The Track:
The club is situated
at diamond park on the Lincoln causeway and is comprised of an offroad and on road track. Both tracks have a timing system which will work with compatible transponders (Mylaps). There is power for charging batteries and access to public toilets during club days. During club days the track is watered and groomed according to conditions. Competitors participate on the track together with an aim of achieving their fastest time which will decide your grid starting position for the mains racing. There are usually 3 mains with a 5-minute duration where all competitors race to be the first over the finish line. Marshalling:
Once you finish your race, there is a quick break and then you are expected to assist in picking up cars that crash for the next group of racers during their race. Racing classes:
Our members use a variety of vehicles, but when it comes to racing, there are specific classes which follow specific rules for the drivetrain and power level, this allows competition to be fair. We welcome those wanting to give racing a try, it can be confusing to decide what class you want to race, or what vehicle you will need to buy to satisfy the racing rules…. The club therefore offers hire cars so you can have a try, our members are also happy to advise you and help you out with what you need. Don’t worry, too much about the rules though, we do run beginner and amateur classes, so you are welcome to bring whatever car you have down if you already own one and would like to participate and get a feel for RC racing. For the keen driver, your choice of car does become important if you wish to participate in championships and indeed attend other events around the country at other tracks. WRCCC is proud to host state and national events regularly, so there are plenty of opportunities to race drivers from all over the country. Electric Off-Road:
WRCCC focuses mainly on 1/10th scale electric offroad competition, the offroad classes are often identified by drive type (2 or 4 wheel drive), vehicle type (Truck or buggy) and motor type (rated as motor turns), for example 21.5 Turn brushless. As the number of turns decreases, motors are more powerful, for example a 13.5 turn motor has more power than a 21.5 turn motor. Race Classes:
Below is a basic breakdown of some of the popular classes we see here at Wodonga on our club days with their drive type, vehicle and motor turn requirements:
Offroad:
21.5T 2WD Buggy: This popular class uses slower buggies where the emphasis is on learning the basics and getting the car around the track without crashing. The cars are evenly matched, leading to some tight racing. This class is a great kick off point, as the car you use for this class can be used in other faster classes with a change of motor as you progress. We also run a junior class as required.
17.5T (Stock) 2WD Buggy: A faster more competitive class where you learn to harness the extra horsepower you now have from the faster 17.5 turn motor to bring those lap times down. Modified (Open) 2WD Buggy: The fastest 2WD buggy class in which too much horsepower can be a problem! This class is also very competitive and requires a steady driving hand as you fine tune your power and driving skills to get the power down and clear the rhythm and double sections. Modified (Open) 2WD Stadium Truck and/or short course truck: A fast class with bigger heavier trucks with a more scale looking appearance. Modified (Open) 4WD Buggy: The fastest 4WD buggy class, and a class we sometimes run at WRCCC, these vehicles use powerful motors and speed controls and are very exciting to watch and drive. On road:
We are currently trialling an open “run what you brung” class, a majority of the vehicles are cheap Tamiya truck and car chassis kits built straight out of the box with minimal upgrades allowed to keep the class fun and cheap. What do I bring to race? We accommodate non-competition and ready to run vehicles at our club days, please note these vehicles cannot be used for competition in sanctioned club championships, state, or national events. We find that the non-competition vehicles aren’t as robust and tend to break easily when used for racing. Hire cars are available if you break something, so you don’t miss out on the days racing. Below is a summary of offroad vehicles that commonly compete and meet the racing rules, most of the vehicles listed require assembly, radio, batteries, motor, and an electronic speed control.
